Low Carb Snacks

Focusing on low carb snacks can have a surprising impact on your overall weight loss goals. With so many people having busy schedules today, you may find yourself doing more snacking than eating regular meals. Even if 00004000 your lifestyle isn't so hectic that you miss sitting down to meals, you may still find yourself eating snacks throughout the day. The quality of these snacks, and how often you partake of them, can be quite significant. Snack calories can add up fast, especially if you aren't paying attention to them!

If you eat snacks out of vending machines, like candy, potato chips or pretzels, your snacking habits could definitely use some improvement. These "foods" are not only high in carbohydrates, but they are essentially empty calories, often containing lots of sugar, sodium and unhealthy fats.

The workplace can be especially treacherous when it comes to being tempted by frequent, high calorie snacks. This is especially true during the holiday season, of course, but it can also occur throughout the year. Many offices have frequent little parties for people's birthdays, special events where everyone brings in food and the like. It can be difficult to refuse these treats; in fact, it might even make you feel like you're being rude. One thing you can train yourself to do is to take very small portions on these special occasions, and don't go back for seconds, even if they are offered!

What healthy low carb snacks can I buy?

    • ANSWER:
I worked 11-7 for eighteen years.

I'm not going to answer your question, exactly. I suggest, instead of snacks, you buy foods and package them at home. You can pack a lot in a small ice chest. If you have access to a refrigerator you can store this stuff over night and put it in your ice chest the morning.

Such things as hard boiled eggs, carrot and celery sticks, romaine lettuce, grape tomatoes, avocado, cheese, nuts and seeds, clean and cube half a cantaloupe, Bok Choy, a green apple might be acceptable.

  8. QUESTION:
What are the best and sipliest no/very low carb meals/snacks?
I am looking for some practical (i.e. cheap and easy)no carb and very low carb snack and meal options. Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
      Here are some ideas:

Thin piece of ham rolled around some cream cheese or regular cheese.

Peanut butter (not too much!) or cream cheese on celery.

Tunafish salad with chopped boiled eggs, celery, chopped dill pickle, chopped green onions, mayonnaise, salt, pepper.

Omelette filled with your choice of cream cheese, any other kind of cheese, onion, bacon, ham, taco meat, onions, sausage meat, etc. To add some extra flavor, serve with a small amount of taco sauce or spaghetti sauce. Don't be afraid to play around with some herbs and spices.

Mixed salad greens (I prefer Italian mixes) with assorted sliced up cheeses and meat, including feta cheese. You can add olives, celery, boiled eggs, chopped walnuts or pecans, and anything with no carbs. I like to make a dressing out of a dollop of ranch dressing, olive oil, a little bit of basalmic vinegar, salt, pepper, and a little anchovy paste and pour it over the salad. Use your imagination with salads.

Stir fry vegetables and meat cooked in sesame oil. I love the peanut sauce you can buy in bottles. Just before your food is cooked, add some of the peanut sauce and a little soy sauce to the frypan and heat through. Eat promptly.

  10. QUESTION:
What kind of a low carb snacks should I take to work with me?
I am a type 2 diabetic and my sugar is out of control. I am a muncher. I need snacks that won't cause my sugar (blood sugar) to spike. Lunch ideas would be great too.

    • ANSWER:
Cheese, celery sticks, cucumber slices, and pretzels are good low carb snacks. As for your lunch, you could probably eat a salad. Be a little cautious, however, for the fruits in particular. Apples, grapes, and cherries are some fruits that are particularly high in carbs and sugar. Try rasberries or tomatoes for low carb fruits. But if I remember correctly, as long as you generally balance out your carbs and not eat super high carb foods to knock your blood sugar out of balance, you should be fine. With that said, a sandwhich or soup is also a good choice. Just consult your doctor or nutritionist for more detailed info. Hope this helps!

  11. QUESTION:
What are the best low carb foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Also Low Carb Snacks?
I'm just cutting down on my carb intake and wanted to know of some ideas for my breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have a slight wheat intolerance and can't eat bread, oats, pasta or rice so it limits my options slighlty in terms of meals I can eat.

    • ANSWER:
Breakfast is the weirdest for low carb because without milk, juice, toast, cereal, etc, it just doesn't seem like "breakfast". But you just have to get over it I guess. Normally for breakfast I will just grab some combination of eggs, nuts like almonds or walnuts, or a protein shake. Cheese and greek yogurt (not regular yogurt - full of carbs) are good options. Also a SMALL piece of fruit or berries is ok because the fiber will slow down the carb absorption.

Classic steak and eggs, even a small portion, is a great low carb breakfast.

For lunch and dinner the key is to eat protein sources like chicken, steak, fish, and then supplement with lots of "colored" vegetables (green, red, yellow).

Basically even though there are some carbs in green veggies like broccoli, green beans, spinach, etc, most of them are fiber your body can't use for calories, so you can actually eat as much of them as you want to get full and still be low carb.

  12. QUESTION:
Any suggestions for tasty low-carb snacks that are easy to pack for work?

    • ANSWER:
I like to pack a small tupperwear up with peanut butter on one side and small celery sticks on the other. I eat them all morning long! (by the way, the chunkier the peanut butter, the less net carbs).
Also a good one: I like cheese and salami as a "protein plate." If you have a fridge in the work kitchen or breakroom, you can do all kinds of variations on that.
Another favorite of mine is Tuna for a snack. I make one can w/ mayo and then split it up and take some to work and keep it in the fridge.

  13. QUESTION:
What are some low carb snacks I can buy at gas stations on the road?
Other than pork skins, what can I buy? Pork skins are nasty.

    • ANSWER:
*hard boiled egg & cheese snack
      *burger/sandwich without bun/bread
      *string cheese
      *almonds or other nuts
*IF there is nothing...beef jerky, original flavor

It is absolutely better to take low carb snacks with you if you can.

  14. QUESTION:
    What are good low-calorie/low-carb snacks?
Other then fruits and vegetables, what are good low-calorie and LCRB snacks? I am trying to eat not more then 150 calories and 15 carbs in a snack. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
      piano,

I created a website that provides reviews of products that match your request. I'm a type 2 diabetic that has to limit intake of carbs and thought that others might benefit from my research. I have a special section just for low carb snacks. Not all of them are low calorie, but many of them will fall under your 150 calorie requirement if you stay under the recommended serving size.

      Hope this helps!

  15. QUESTION:
Can I get low carb snacks at retail stores?
Like atkins bars and shakes? If I can, which store?

    • ANSWER:
The bars & shakes are ok in an emergency (they won't make you gain weight) but they will stop weight loss cold. I have no scientific proof but I've heard hundreds of people ask why they aren't losing with Atkins and they do fine after they quit the bars & shakes. Stick to whole foods.

You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more variety of vegetables thereafter - add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)

Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.

The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it's own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.

Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

It takes minimum of 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) trigger insulin which can store the calories eaten into fat. The more protein the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

Simple carbs are addictive & can be disastrous to health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs, eat one every time you want "something" - have huge omelets with bacon, sausage, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops smothered with peppers, mushrooms & cheese - pork rinds & dip or tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salad - steaks - a huge sugar free cheese cake. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the 4th day, the addiction will be gone & you can start making healthy choices.

High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 minutes. Suggested for daily fiber needs.

As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn't gain weight, no matter the calories. Many people gain weight on high carb, do low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb & gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.

  17. QUESTION:
What are your low carb snacks?
I need low carb snack ideas. I also need help with breakfast I usually eat oatmeal or cereal. Anything other than eggs, i hate eggs.
I know that cereal and oatmeal are not low carb. i meant that I ate those PRIOR to starting this diet change. which means now i am at a loss for breakfast

    • ANSWER:
You should learn to like eggs - a thin omelet stuffed with bacon, sausage, mushrooms, peppers & melted cheese - You can make this cereal (1g net carbs) without the egg (which you can't taste) but it tastes slimy without the egg.

Ground flax seed (4 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 min for daily fiber needs. Flax seed should be eaten daily even in induction.

Avocado mashed with mayo seasoned with cayenne you could also add rotel tomatoes - & eaten with pork rinds (Bakenets are my fav brand) or celery & raw cauliflower

      Deviled Eggs

The first 2 weeks, you can have several cups of salad a day - Bacon, lettuce & a lil tomato with avocado/mayo dressing is my fav. Jicama, cucumber, celery & radish marinated in sesame oil & hot pepper flakes with rice wine vinegar & artificial sweetener. Make a stir fry with Bok Choy, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, celery, mushrooms, shirataki noodles. I love eggs & could eat deviled eggs every day. You can smother omelets & meats with mushrooms, peppers & cheese. Meatzza - Meatloaf with pizza toppings. I like thin sausage patties fried crispy with pizza toppings. Pork rinds & celery sticks are great crunch and can be eaten with dips (avocado/mayo/cayenne) & tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salads. I love my rotisserie & it makes meats tasty. I cook a turkey often & make soup with the bones & turkey salads. I'll cube up some turkey meat mix in a couple of raw eggs add cheese & broccoli with cayenne powder & nuke 2 minutes for instant meal.

After 2 week, you add 5 grams of carbs per day every week & add greater variety of non starchy vegetables. Change your mindset - adapt what you like to eat to low carb -
      replace bread with lettuce
      replace pasta with cabbage
      replace rice with cauliflower
      replace potatoes with brocolli
Cabbage makes a good pasta substitute. Make lasagna with blanched cabbage leaves & thinly fried eggplant instead of noodles. Sugar free pasta sauce over fried cabbage. My fav is chicken cacciatore, I add greens & flaxseed for body & add pizza toppings too. Alfredo sauce is also low carb.

I make a lot of shredded cabbage & mayo or fried cabbage if I'm a bit more ambitious. I fry up bacon & onions & it makes any salad special (BLT) Avocado & turkey - grilled chicken - fajita meat & fried onions is great also. I'll make a salad with 6 cans: mackerel, baby corn, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, artichoke hearts, sweet red peppers & add mayo & chia seed gel.

Kim Chee is fermented cabbage & one of the healthiest foods. You can make a huge batch & it will sit in refrigerator fine for a long time.

I make huge batches of food & freeze most of it. Go into the forums for recipes - I was shocked that fried "rice" made with grated cauliflower tasted like it's name sake - faux mashed "taters" made with cauliflower & cream cheese - "potato" salad using cauliflower instead. Shirataki noodles are traditional in Japanese sukiyaki & low carb

Chia seeds sound expensive but 1# will make 10# food. I buy mine in bulk for # with free shipping at getchia.com

I also order off Amazon - Lowrey's Pork Rinds 18 for - they pop like popcorn & are portion controlled.

Faux tapioca - 2 cups of water, 5 scoops of low carb whey protein powder, stir together & add cup of chia seeds, after they have started to absorb the water, add in 2 cans of coconut milk (or cream & added water) & artificial sweetener if you like & mix it all in. Cream a pkg. of cream cheese into a can of pumpkin & add for pumpkin pie pudding.

I make a raw porridge out of low carb whey powder & water, I add ground flax seeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, coconut milk, tahini (ground sesame seeds) & raw egg. All seeds & nuts are raw & soaked to germinate them.

i eat lots of fish for snack (fish "steaks" or mackerel in tins are favs)- olives

I make a raw porridge out of low carb whey powder & water, I add ground flax seeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, coconut milk, tahini (ground sesame seeds) & raw egg. All seeds & nuts are raw & soaked to germinate them.

(berries are lowest glycemic) Cheesecake - strawberry ice cream (frozen berries, cream, a stick blender) - i eat lots of fish for snack (fish "steaks" or mackerel in tins are favs)- olives

    Any suggestions are welcome :-)

      Nuts and vegetables: lowest carbs.

cheese sticks:eat them slow and stop me from eating.

gum: stop you from eating more

*jello*: if you get sugar free jello it is no carbs!!☺

And you can use splenda and other sugar sweeteners. If you like they have a lot of sugar free foods that i would look into. Remember, you can have what you want in moderation. Go ahead, have some chocolate.☺

  25. QUESTION:
What are some good low carb snacks?
Any one know of some good low carb snacks I have a mean sweet tooth helpppppppppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Shanta
A low carb snack must ideally have healthy fat, protein and fiber. If you are having eggs or jerky, you might as well have vegetables with it.

Here's a rundown of low-carb snacks you can consider munching on:

      - Celery with tuna salad

      - Celery with peanut butter

      - Hard boiled eggs

      - Pickles and cheddar cheese

      - Berries and cottage cheese

      - Nuts. Best serve when kept in freezer.

      - Sunflower seeds

      - Pumpkin seeds

      - Jerky like turkey or beef. Find the low-sugar variety

      - Shakes. Make sure it's low carb though

      - Cheese sticks

      - Sugar free jello

      - Apple slices

      - Sugar free yogurt flavored with berries

      - Lettuce roll ups on luncheon meat, tuna, or egg salad

      - Lettuce dipped in bean dip, spinach dip or other low carb dip

      - Ricotta cheese with nuts, fruit or seeds

      - Mushroom and cheese spread

      - Low carb snack bars

Take note though that just because these are low-carbohydrate, these snacks are healthy. It may be popular and has already dominated the snack food companies and market but as a consumer, you must still be careful when choosing the low-carb snacks you will provide yourself and your family.

First off, low carb snack bars. There are tons of snack bars to choose from in the grocery. Not all of them provide good nutrition. Some low carb snack bars are there to maintain phases of low carb diets because they still contain calories. The sugar they have contain alcohol. Alcohol sugars in low carb snack bars will be difficult to digest and result to gas.

What are some diet snack food-low carb and low sugar

    Ideas for Lunch and Supper?

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:

During the first 2 weeks, you can have several cups of salads - Bacon, lettuce & a lil tomato with avocado/mayo dressing is my fav. Jicama, cucumber, celery & radish marinated in sesame oil & hot pepper flakes with rice wine vinegar & artificial sweetener. Make a stir fry with Bok Choy, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, celery, mushrooms, shirataki noodles & your fav meats. I love eggs & could eat deviled eggs every day. You can smother omelets & meats with mushrooms & peppers & cheese. Meatzza - Meatloaf with pizza toppings (pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, mozzarella) I prefer very thin sausage patties fried crispy with pizza toppings. Pork rinds & celery sticks are great crunch and can be eaten with dips (avocado/mayo/cayenne is my fav) & tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salads. I love love love my rotisserie and it makes the meats extra tasty. I cook a turkey every couple of months and make soup with the bones (add vinegar to leach minerals) & turkey salads. I'll cube up some turkey meat mix in a couple of raw eggs add cheese (and broccoli after induction) with cayenne powder & nuke a couple of minutes for nearly instant meal. Flax seed should be eaten 2T daily even in induction.

Ground flax seed (2-4 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 min for daily fiber needs.

After the 2 week induction, you add 5 grams of carbs per day every week and add a much greater variety of non starchy vegetables. Change your mindset - eat what you like to eat, just adapt it to low carb -
      replace bread with lettuce
      replace pasta with cabbage
      replace rice with cauliflower
      replace potatoes with brocolli
Cabbage makes an excellent pasta substitute Make a lasagna with blanched cabbage leaves & thinly fried eggplant instead of noodles. Sugar free pasta sauce over fried cabbage. My fav is chicken cacciatore, I add greens & flaxseed or chia seed for body and also add pizza toppings - pepperoni, mushrooms, lots of mozzarrella. Alfredo sauce is also low carb..

I make a lot of shredded cabbage & mayo or fried cabbage if I'm a bit more ambitious. I cook up some bacon & throw in onions & let them fry & it makes any salad extra special (BLT) Avocado & turkey is great on a salad - Grilled chicken or fajita meat & fried onions too. Sometimes I'll make a canned salad - can mackerel, can baby corn, can water chestnuts, can bamboo shoots, can artichoke hearts, can sweet red peppers & add in mayo & chia seed gel.

Kim Chee is a fermented cabbage salad & is suppose to be one of the most healthy foods in the world. You can make a huge batch & it will sit in refrigerator fine for a long time.

I usually make huge batches of food & freeze most of it. I cook meats 20-30# at a time (for just me) I have gone into the forums for recipes (especially when I first started low carb) I was shocked that fried "rice" made with grated cauliflower tasted just like it's name sake. Shirataki noodles are traditional in Japanese sukiyaki and low carb. I've heard faux mashed "taters" made with cauliflower & cream cheese can fool non low carbers. "potato" salad using cauliflower instead.

Chia seeds sound so expensive but 1# will make 10# food (when you can splurge some - Amazon.com has couple lbs. for shipped to you. I buy mine in bulk - 24# for .83# with free shipping at getchia.com

I also order off Amazon - Lowrey's Pork Rinds 18 for - they pop like popcorn & are portion controlled.

Faux tapioca - 2 cups of water, 5 scoops of low carb whey protein powder, stir together & add cup of chia seeds, after they have started to absorb the water, add in 2 cans of coconut milk (or cream and added water during induction) & artificial sweetener if you like and mix it all in. Can be eaten after an hour but will be better tomorrow. Cream a pkg. of cream cheese into a can of pumpkin & add to the faux tapioca for an even more nutritious pumpkin pie pudding.

(berries are lowest glycemic) Cheesecake - strawberry ice cream (frozen berries, cream, a stick blender) - pork rinds great crunch - canned fish "steaks" or mackerel - avocado/mayo/cayenne dip - olives

    Low Carb snacks and meals?
I have been on a super low carb diet for about 3 weeks now, and I have lost a significant amount of weight so far. The problem is I dont eat all that much meat, so I'm left with salad and cheese. Does anyone know of some semi low carb snacks or items I could incorporate into my diet.

    • ANSWER:
yes i was on the atkins diet a couple years ago. and that is low carb.
      rice cakes
      mustard (no carbs)
      chicken
      tomatoes
      eggs, poached, deviled, fried, omlets
      tuna
there is even peanut butter, that you can buy at the store, and it is a low carb peanut butter. i remember it has a light blue lid.
and your going to want to eat mayo instead of miracle whip because mayo has less carbs
even crystal light is low in carbs.

(just a tip for if you ever get off this diet, when people are on a low carb diet, and get off of the diet, they tend to gain more weight that they started out to be. this is because its a tremendous change in their eating habbits, which is why you probobly noticed that you started losing weight really fast.)

Good Luck and i hope i helped

  34. QUESTION:
Looking for quick and easy low/no carb snacks and meals for children?
My son is a type 1 diabetic, lately he is constantly hungry - which makes it difficult to manage his condition. I am thus looking for very low/no carb recipes for food that he can snack on between meals.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks x

    • ANSWER:
      Low fat cottage cheese
Baby bell light cheese by laughing cow
      String Cheese
      Cheddar, Jack, American, Swiss Cheeses
      Tuna steaks with veggies
Hamburger with no bun or multigrain bread and green beans
Shrimp sauteed in butter with garlic salt and broccoli
Salmon with cauliflower and broccoli or asparagus with lemon herb butter (we make this by mixing lemon juice, Mrs. dash, and I can't believe it's not butter spray and use it on most of our veggies)
Chicken fajitas with whole wheat tortillas belle pepper and onions and re-fried beans
Ham in a low carb bread like whole wheat pita pockets with good stuff like romaine and lowfat cheese and a little vinaigrette
A good chicken or lean beef stir fry with snow peas, broccoli, celery, and carrots (make your own sauce)
Clear broth soups with beef or chicken and the non starchy vegetables
      Scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs
      Almonds, pistachios,
      sunflower seeds
Hummus and a little whole grain pita
Apricots, prunes, cherries and most berries are pretty low carb, dates
Whole wheat or multi grain crackers with a lowfat cheese spread or nut butter like almond, cashew, or natural peanut butter (you can find at Target now)
Celery sticks, cherry tomatoes (any tomatoes)
Corn chips are the best chips and then a salsa is pretty good too but this has to be in moderation
If you make your own cheese sauce that is ok too or little nachos with re-fried beans ground beef and salsa. A homemade pico de gallo (tomatoes, onion, and pepper) is probably better than store bought to put on top and concentrate on the topping rather than the chips.

We deal with the same thing in our household...I am on an insulin resistant diet so we all eat like this and these are the things my kids will eat. They are 9 and 11.
      Good luck

  40. QUESTION:
Does anyone know of any low carb and low fat snacks?
Well, I've passed 60 recently, my blood pressure went up and then with Lisinopril it was controlled after a few months and is back to 11X over 65-75. However, now my blood sugar is marginal high, about 365 and my cholesterol has gone way up, so the docs have placed me on a low carb, low fat diet. I'm supposed to watch everything, etc, etc. My weight is 193 at 6'1" and I am not lethargis evn though I don't feel very physically capable anymore. I've always eaten and drunk anything and everything, so I am finding it hard to make adjustments. They said I could have snacks other than the 3 75gr carb meals per day if the snacks were both low carb and low fat. I thought this would be easy but I am finding it impossible to find or imagine such snacks. Can anyone who is a dieting buff help me with this?

    • ANSWER:
If your food is low carb and low fat you are looking at only a few possibilities. Protein and green vegies. Jerky and popcorn (the low fat microwave stuff or air popped stuff. Would fit your bill of fair.

Keep in mind that if you cut carbs those nasty triglycerides should come down as well because they are an end product to the metabolism of carbohydrates.

You might read the book Diabetes Solution, the doc who wrote this clearly explains the relationship between diet, blood sugar, cholesterol etc. My husband used the diet recommended here and lost weight, corrected blood sugar, and lipid profile. He had no problem with blood pressure but if the other things improve for you BP should improve as well.

Otherwise, track closely what you eat by writing it down so you don't try to fool yourself. 60 really isn't that old; it's just long enough to build some really tough to break habits. Take it a day at a time. If you eat poorly one meal, start again fresh at the next meal. Don't wait for the next day.Good luck.

What are some good low-carb snacks to have in the evenings??

    • ANSWER:
There are no really 'good' snacks if you have weight to lose other than veggies. Snacking is unnecessary, and night time snacking is especially bad (except for veggies). But if you insist on eating at night, a few nuts are not too bad. Jerky is nearly no carb and also relatively low cal as well.
