    I just want to kick start some weight loss and eat only porridge, fruits & veggies, and nuts for one week. I'm Eastern European so I LOVE porridge and eat it every morning for breakfast anyway. It's really filling, and if I cook it with water instead of milk and don't put any sugar in it, it's really healthy.
    I'd be getting most of the needed vitamins and proteins from nuts and fruits, and since I'm only doing it for a week, it shouldn't be that bad for me.

    I just want to know how much weight I can expect to lose from this.

      We are born with a certain number of fat cells in our body. Once they grow (get fat) they want to stay grown. If you lose weight by appropriate diet and exercise and maintain that diet and exercise you should be able to keep the weight off. Problem is most of us revert to our old habits to easily. It is necessary to keep a constant eye on our weight and exercise after we lose weight. It wants to come back and we want to eat those things like to much pizza and chocolate. I have lost 60+ pounds over 3 years ago. I have kept it off by being careful about my diet and exercise. I don't deny things. It was my Bday the other day and I brought a single slice of cake rather than the whole thing. It would have called my name all night! Prior to this weight loss I have lost 30-40 pounds multiple times to regain it. I would much rather be able to look good in the mirror in pretty clothes than look in the mirror and see 212 pounds. I've only been on this diet for a very, very short period of time.
    I've been trying to lose weight before school starts. I was planning to continue this diet until then (only a week left), and then start eating a normal amount everyday. But i've noticed this type of diet needs to stop now because its very unhealthy.
    As a woman, I don't mind being 138 pounds. But as a female high school student, I feel utterly overweight compared to the developing bodies of my fellow female classmates.

    Struggling to balance diet with family meals/opinions?
    I am a 19 year old student living with my family, and up until now I have been trying to compromise my 'strict' vegetarianism around them. The problem is that my parents refuse to compromise at all in terms of family meals and I always seem to end up eating meat based around the idea that it going to waste is even worse than the meat/dairy industry alone. I want to stop doing this very, very much as for all my other meals I as strict as a vegan in terms of diet.

    The problem is, my parents not only don't compromise, but actively go out of their way to mock and sabotage my efforts - My parents have even gone so far as to put mince in my stir fry when my back is turned, and put beef-stock gravy on vegetarian meals when they have never felt any urge to before. I am also getting daily personal ridicule with them saying things like 'Vegetarians look like death warmed up', 'There's no goodness is vegetables at all' and 'If you don't eat meat then people wont need farm animals and will kill them all' when I have NEVER mentioned anything to them about my diet choices other than to request that certain foods be left off my portions.

    I already buy and prepare everything I eat bar my main meal, but I can't afford to pay for my food 100% as well as board - I have already had to go onto supplements because I can't afford the foods I used to eat.

    How can I get around this situation, because I will be living here for the next 5 years?

    I am planning on replacing 2 meals a day with fruit and or vegtables. For example:

    Snack-piece of fruit

      You have too much juice-juice is HIGH in calories. If you are eating the fresh stuff you won't need the juice. You should also try to have protein at every meal. Fruits and veggies have carbs and you need the protein to balance out. You can still do this while eating vegetarian to "detox" by eating legumes and soy. Check out the "Fat Smash" Diet - it has a 10 day detox that is totally doable and incorporates some of what you want.

    my son is 15 years old is morbidly obese (he is 5'7" and weighs 366 pounds). he has always been a skinny, active kid growing up. he started dramatically gaining weight when he was around 11 years old. i know its my fault he is over 300 pounds, and i feel even worse that we let it happen when both my husband and i are thin, but instead of dwelling on the past im going to into the future. so i decided he needs to change so i started only cooking healthy meals, i removed all the junk food, in our home, put the parental lock on the TV and bought him a treadmill and told him he has to run on the treadmill one hour everyday and i would weigh him every week to see his progress. when the month started he was 330 pounds and like i said now hes 366 pounds. i was appauled he gained 36 pounds in a month. i asked him if he was cheating on his diet or not doing his excersizes, but he told me he was doing them and doesn't know why hes gaining weight. a few days ago i decided i would go home for my lunch break and when i got home i saw my son was sleeping and there was 3 XL pizza boxes, 4 big mac boxes and a bag of dorritos around him. i came too late cause he had finished everything. i woke him up and asked what were the food came from, and he confessed that for the past month his father had been buying multiple amounts of fast food everyday. i got in to an argument with my husband on why he was giving him food and he felt bad that i was putting him on a diet so he bought him junk food he even had the nerve to say "i decided to feed him good food not that health crap you give him and what are you mad about its not like im giving him drugs". i asked my son if he himself wanted to lose weight and he just replied " i really dont care, im happy with who i am, im getting good grades, i have a girl friend, and my life is going fine, the only reason why i am doing this cause your making me." iv tried to motivate my son in every way to lose weight but nothing has worked. iv even used his GF as an example to motivate him. she used to be obese herself, but last time i saw her she looked thin and she told me she had been dieting and excersizing and had lost 50 pounds, i complimented her on how good she looked and was telling my son that he should have lose weight with her. i love my son with all my heart and im really worried about him and i just want what is best for him, but i cant make him lose weight he needs to want to also. how can i motivate him.

      Tell her drink lots and lots of water to get rid of water weight (yes, drink MORE water to lose water weight). It's the easiest and fastest way. Also, make her eat more fiber to clean out her digestive system. Don't forget the exercise and she'll be losing the 15 lbs in 3 weeks ;)
      and jeez, that teacher is mean :| it should be illegal to treat a student like if it isn't your kid.

      just make sure what your eating. You may consume that amount of calories, BUT watch out for sugar. Sugar adds on to fat.

      If you want to flatten your stomach you'll be MUCH better off with ab crunches. You want to strengthen and tone your stomach muscles and for that you need to exercise those muscles. Ab crunches do that.

      Running of any sort is brilliant exercise but won't flatten your stomach (except for the effect of all over weight loss). It will improve your cardiovascular system which makes you fitter, gives you more energy, and burns more calories. Up stairs is especially good for that if you do it enough (up and down is good too).

    I have started adding a protein shake into my diet. I'm not actually concerned about losing weight, I only weight 110, but I am concerned about getting back into shape like I used to be when I was active duty Military.     i'm 13 and just want a flat belly and i've been doing lots of exercise and trying to eat as healthy as i can for the past week or so and i think i might already be seeing results. my diet consists of no junk just fruits proteins and veggies and meat and dairy. i've been doing 120 situps or more everday, stretching, doing 100 or more pushups, 100 or more jumping jacks, and a little bit of p90x ab ripper x, and at least 40 side crunches. i exercise about an hour after i eat anything i don't feel like i'm pushing myself though i actually feel alot better doing this lol. i'm not fat (i'm only 125 pounds whichi s the perfect BMI for me) but there is like a small layer of fat covering where abs form. like i could just poke my stomach then i feel like a really hard layer right under the little bit of fat. judging from this and my workout and diet and how soon do you think i'll see the full results?

    I'm a 14 year old girl, and i want to lose weight. I am currently trying to be on a 1200 calorie diet. But I'm afraid i might not be getting enough vitamins and calcium. How much should i be getting? What foods are low in calories but are nutrition packed? By the way, i take 2 calcium chews, 1 vitamin c, 1 vitamin d, and 4 kids multivitamins daily.

    oh, and is soy milk a good alternative for real milk? i drink about 2/3 - 1 cup a day

    Any ideas how i can stop this happening to me?
    Lately i have been having chest pains and aches in my arms, predominantly my left, along with heart palpitations.

    Now i have the heart palpitations anyway due to chronic stress of fluctuating intensity along with anxiety and confusion blah blah blah but that is not the problem. i have learned to put up with that.

    the problem is that my chest pains, and occasional back and neck pains and a strange sensation in my left arm every now and then are making me anxious and i cant sleep till late because my heartbeat and the pains keep distracting me (eg when my palpitation ends it feels like my heart has stopped)

    A heart attack is unlikely, seeing as im 15, and my osteopath told me its to do with the stress.

    yeah ive heard 'balanced healthy diet' 'active lifestyle' etc but lets face facts here.
    It comes and goes randomly regardless of what i have been doing that day occasionally im going about my daily buisness when i feel really ill all of a sudden, and need to have fresh air.

    so my question is, is there a quick fix? or do i just have to wait for it to go?
    Oh and i used to smoke marijuana, not sure if thats relevant.
    I just remembered theres also a lot of twitching lately.

      I hate to disagree with your osteopath, but young kids can have heart problems, too. All the symptoms you mention can possibly be heart problems and even though you claim you have the stress under control, your body did not get the message. You need to have your cardiac symptoms put to rest by dealing with each and every one of them. Perhaps it is best to have a check up with a cardiologist or at least a second opinion by another doctor. Many of these symptoms could be psychosomatic as well.

      If you lose weight the healthy way you can expect to lose 1-2% of your body weight per week. The best way to lose is to eat low glycemic small meals 5-6 times per day, and some exercise for 30 mins at least 5 days per week. Weight training will build muscle but you also need some type of aerobic exercise for cardio fitness. I found Perfect Body Shape in October, and have lost over 20 inches.
      The other thing you need to think about is inches instead of pounds. Muscle weighs more than fat, and scales can deceive you. A quart of water weighs 2 lbs! Which leads to another point. You should drink half your weight in oz of water daily. For example -if you weigh 150 you should drink 75 oz of water - minimum. There is much more to being healthy, but these are some starters. I have been very happy with the results I have gotten with the Perfect Body Shape program.

    Okay so I want to lose 13kg, I weigh 7.5 stone and I'm 5ft0, if I followed this diet how long would it take for me to lose this?

    Weekdays (I have to eat a lot for school)
    Breakfast: cereal and a cup of tea
    Lunch: sandwich, cereal bar, piece of fruit, bottle of water
    Dinner: something small eg fish fingers, a few chicken pieces, small portion of pasta
    Snacks: fruit or drink water

    Weekends:
    Breakfast: cup of tea
    Lunch: fast food as a treat every so often, that, or soup, or nothing
    Dinner: if I have fast food, then nothing. But if not, then same as weekday.

    Exercise: gym once a week and 100-150 stomach crunches a nighy
