QUESTION:
Healthy Diet?
I am a twenty year old college student who is not very active physically. I have lost any motivation to lose weight, I have horrible health conditions on besides of my family and I want to go on a healthy diet. If not a diet, then anything I can do to lose weight that is healthy and will help me out will be great. Any suggestions would be appreciated-
ANSWER:
Here's a few diet habits that you could do.
I am inspired by the Japanese low rate of obesity and life longetivity.Walk more often! Many Japanese don't rely on their car or public cars to do their activities. They do a lot of walking and climbing stairs on their daily activities. Japanese also ride bicycle often, those are good ways to increase the calories output.
Don't eat like a giant! You can start reducing your consumption, it may take sometime before your stomach is used to it.
Don't eat until you are full! Eat until you are 80% full.
Consume more fish based foods rather than meat based products.
Eat slowly! Compare the eating speed of a person that uses chopstick versus a person that uses spoon and fork. The chopstick is carefully designed so that you will eat slowly to let your digestion process works effectively. So eat at slower pace no matter how hungry you are.
Make that a habit and combine your habits with healthy foods

QUESTION:
Healthy diet?
About how many calories should a person eat everyday.
Can u list the foods that a person should eat for a healthy diet.-
ANSWER:
2000 calories is too much or too little depending on the person.
A rough estimate is your current weight times 10 first
.I am 132# 1320 calories to maintain my weight for lying in bed all day. Add 10% (132) for digesting and eating food
S0 1452, next times your activity level
0.2 for sedentary
0.3 for moderately active (1452 x 0.3=435.6+1452=1887.6 calories per day to maintain my weight)
So 2000 would be too much.
You need to plug the numbers to find your needs. To lose weight remove no more than 500 calories per day (unless your caloric needs exceed 3000 calories per day) from what is needed to MAINTAIN your weight. With that you should lose roughly 1 lb per week (3500 calories = 1 # of fat)
0.5 for highly active.
Your intake should not be any lower than 1200 calories per day of highly varied foods, that contains
fruit, rainbow of fruits
veggies brighter=more vitamins
lean meats (or meat alternatives) skinless chicken pork loin, round ste, tofu, soybeans, legumes
a healthy balance of fats, canola oil, flaxseed oil, non-hydrogenated margarine or a small amount of butter,
whole grains
lowfat dairy lowfat yogurt and cottage cheese (also a meat alternative) lowfat cheese
and low in sugar. limit sodas, ban the sugar bowl. There is no dietary recommendation for sugar-
whole grains-wheat bread (3 grams of fiber per svg) brown rice, whole wheat tortillasThere is actually a more complex formula that uses your height, gender and age. But this formula is adequate enough

QUESTION:
What are some healthy diet suppliments to boost my weight loss?
Do you know any healthy diet suppliments that are also cheap? I'm an overweight teen and I'm 5'9, big boned and about 50 lbs overweight. I exercise and eat very healthy but I haven't lost as much as I believe I can. Plus my family is short on money.-
ANSWER:
The MOST important thing is to eat naturally..without medicines, chemicals, "starving" your self etc.first, it would be best for you to eat as healthy as possible..this will also help you considerably to lose weight gradually and naturally..
eat fresh fruits, vegetables, drink plenty of WATER..avoid all cokes, caffeines, smoking, alchohol etc. as these also add weight as well as they contain chemicals which disturb your natural bio rythmns as well as brain chemistry. try not to eat too much meat, and the meat you should eat should be "lean meat" such as steamed chicken and rice, or steamed fish with rice..and vegetables,, this should be your staple diet rice and vegetables with fruits..AVOID "JUNK FOOD" and "Fast Food" as this type of food is very unhealthy, lacking in vitamins really and has plenty of fattening molecules which make one gain weight and is not good .
if you snack,, try fruits with yogurt or fruit yogurt and nuts.. nuts are very healthy for your body .and contain proteins.
go for walks every evening or morning or whenever you get time each day for 1 hour or 2 hours..make this somewhere you enjoy walking even if you have to drive a bit to there..and make this a daily routine..you will enjoy it once you get into it ..and it makes you feel great after..just walking for 1 hour or 2 hours.
if you do this..every day for one month ..you should lose around 10 pounds (.714 stone) per month until you get to your natural healthy weight.. look up on the internet for an idea of what your weight for your height should be ..and when you get to this weight,,your body will look very nice and you will feel very good.
10 pounds (.714 stone ) each month in 3 months you should lose 30 pounds (2 stones, 2 pounds)..for sure...but no junk food and dont drink alcohol or smoke, dont eat junk..just healthy food with vitamins and walking 1 hour or 2 hours every day..and drink plenty of water..this is guaranteed way to lose weight naturally and for good, if you stick to this, which you should,,as it makes you feel so much more positive due to the vitamins and lack of chemicals making you feel depressed...
btw, forgot to mention,,just in case you dont know how to really make healthy meals..buy a "food steamer" at your local deparment store..they are very cheap and work very well..as well as buy a "rice cooker" which is also very cheap..eating rice is a great way to get your necessary carbs "healthy carbs" to lose weight and has lots of natural energy inside. you can buy asian rice at most large supermarkets or if you have a local oriental market..they sale quality asian rice.. thai or indian rice is good "jasmine rice".. buy corn or canola oil to sprinkle on vegetables or rice before steaming to add to taste as well as you can buy several nice spices like "cumin" or "Curry powders", etc.just sprinkle on the vegetables before steaming to give nice taste.
drink "Green Tea" as this is very healthy and helps burn extra fat faster...you can buy quality green tea at most oriental shops or large supermarkets as well

QUESTION:
How can I manage a healthy diet with a family?
Hi everyone. I have four children and have found myself putting on a lot of weight lately. I want to get fit and healthy again (and fit into some of my clothes!!). The youngest is only 1 and it is hard to go for walks or the gym with 4 kids to take care of. My husband does shift work and I am kind of stuck. I love to bake and always make things for the kids and end up eating it too. How can I work a healthier diet and somehow do some exercise with my family and kids in tow? Any suggestions? Has anyone tried exercise DVD's? I think I'd get really bored with that.-
ANSWER:
My sister does exercise DVDs and really likes them. I have borrowed a few of hers but I would rather play music and dance. You can put the youngest in a stroller/buggy/wagon and all go for a walk.Put your WHOLE FAMILY on a healthy eating plan. Good eating habits need to be developed at a very young age. Children can be so active it seems that they never put on weight; but as a teacher every year I see more and more overweight children.
Did you know that the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables for children and adults is 10 serving a day? A serving is 8 bites... children's bites are smaller.
Don't give up your baking, however, bake fruit pies instead of cake made with white flour. Try using whole wheat and other whole grains in your baking.
Use none fat powdered milk for baking... it is healthier and cheaper too. Add a few nuts and also fruit to your baked goods. There are many healthy food sites. I'll put my favorite the the source box. There are many good ones... Yahoo's food site is handy to pull up, too.

QUESTION:
What is a healthy diet to get lean on that's realistic to follow?
What is a healthy and realistic diet to slim down?I have tried crazy diets, and they usually last a couple weeks, then I go back to eating crap! What is something more realistic and long term and healthy....something that I can keep up with. I want to loose about 50 pounds in 6 months.
-
ANSWER:
you probably can't lose 50lbs in 6months unless you eat less than 1500cals a day or if you exercise for hrs. a day..
eating 1500cals is safe to do but you will have to get use to being hungry each and every day of the 6months. i did it for 5months and lost 33lbs.
if you think you can lose 50lbs in 6months without feeling hungry each day then i don't think that is realistic.

QUESTION:
What are good healthy diet plans for men?
Does anyone know of any good healthy diet plans for men. A healthy diet plan that is not boring and has many varieties of food.-
ANSWER:
First thing you need to understand about your diet is too much sugar in your blood will make you fat no matter what diet you are on or how much you work out. Too many ketones in your blood will prevent you from using the sugar in your blood as energy. Too few ketones in your blood will cause you to burn your blood glucose off too fast. So you need to eat small portions of carbs and protein about every 3 hours.
Another thing to know is that trans fat, hydrogenated oil and polyunsaturated fat causes type 2 diabetes. To raise your metabolism stop eating ANYTHING that has these in them. Polyunsaturated fat is ok in small quantities now and them. Also Cholesterol is a key thing. Bad cholesterol is high in red meats, dark meats, pork and even turkey and chicken breast. These types of cholesterol get inside the cell and clog it up. This prevents the cell from being able to accept sugar and burn it off. Where as the trans fats and hydrogenated oils form plaque on top of the cell wall and prevents insulin from being to stick to the cell therefore preventing sugar from being absorbed by the cell. These are the things that lower your metabolism rate as you get older and lead to heart disease and diabetes. To avoid this simply avoid these fats and cholesterols.
Any modified food starch, flour, enriched flour, corn starch, potato starch, high fructose syrups etc. all will raise your blood sugar levels higher and faster than pure sugar will. So watch out for things that say "lite" and "sugar free" and "diet". Many of these things use these to elevate your blood sugars and keep you addicted by tricking you into thinking they are better for you than stuff with sugar in it. That is not to say that sugar is good for you but it is better for you than modified food starch for sure.
You will want to eat 2 green apples a day. The high level of soluble fiber and high level of pectin in them help slow the uptake of sugar into your blood stream. Also lots of green leafy vegetables will provide you with nutrients you need while slowing your sugar uptake. Never eat a carb without eating a protein with it. Never eat any carb that is a simple carb or has a hi glycemic index i.e. corn, potatoes, bread.
Bread is ok if you get 100% whole grain with no additives or preservatives. In fact, this is a necessity. Real peanut butter with no trans fat and no additives is an awesome complex carb. Pecans are magical on blood sugar levels. Eat a handful and if your blood sugar is too high they will lower it. If it is too low they will raise it. And pecans will sustain your blood sugar levels for hours.
You want to have a 3:1 ratio of omega 3 fatty acids to omega 6 fatty acids. So fish without lots of mercury and olive oil for cooking is a must. Flax seeds are also good.
Taking about 10mg of a supplement called MDM, vitamin c, calcium, vitamin D and b12 are all great for making the cell walls more elastic which will raise your metabolism, help rid your body of plaque, and lessen your need for insulin. Another great trick is using about a half table spoon of cinnamon per day. Cinnamon actually has a chemical in it that acts like insulin and reduces the risk of diabetes and speeds up your metabolism.
You want to eat red meat at least once a week and at most a few times a week. Chicken is something to eat at least a few times a week but not more than once a day. Cod, Tilapia and Salmon are the meats of necessity.
Oatmeal is good for slowing the digestive process also, but it also burns off fast into sugar and spikes the blood sugar good. So it is important to not eat more than half a serving at a time and eat it with pecans and protein. Preferably egg whites cooked in olive oil with salsa or fresh veggies.
Greek yogurt is awesome for digestion and low in sugars. SILK is an awesome source of protein and carbs verses high sugar milk (11gm per serving = 1cup, not glass).
Make sure you watch all your pre mixed cooking spices. Most of them have modified food starch.
Beans are a great complex carb. If you are going to eat a potato try to limit to half of a red potato tops before working out. Not all fruits are good. green apples, grapefruit are awesome. Oranges are borderline and most other fruits are high in fructose. Avoid granny smith apples though. Those are horrible on the glycemic index. Broccoli is a must.

QUESTION:
What is a safe diet pill to take along with a healthy diet and exercise?
I am 5'1 155 lbs so I need to lose 25 lbs. I already am on a healthy balance diet and exercised regularly but I want an added kick to it. I am scared to take diet pills because of the side effects but does anyone know of any with no side effects which are safe but actually work?-
ANSWER:
Mimi -
Alli is the only over the counter weight loss pill approved by the FDA. There are only three prescription weight loss medications approved. Do you think that if any of them REALLY worked we would have a billion a year industry in "weight loss" supplements?
The big three pharmaceuticals would dominate the market.
Approved or otherwise, none of these weight loss supplements guarantee anything unless you establish a healthy diet and exercise program.
So why not just establish a healthy diet and exercise program and keep your money?
You will be spending somewhere between and per day on a product that is not approved or guaranteed to do anything!
The only weight loss supplement I recommend is a basic multivitamin.
Good luck.

QUESTION:
How long does it take for healthy diet to work?
For the past years I've had the typical SAD diet. Too much fried, too much sugar, too much everything and all the wrong things. I'm thinking about starting a vegetarian diet and adding more raw fruits and veggies to my diet.I was wondering how long would it take for the healthy diet to start working and helping my body. I keep hearing about health benefits from vegetarian diets -- how long before those benefits work for me?
-
ANSWER:
There is no magic pill or program for weight loss, regardless of what others tell you. When I first started weight watchers, it took me about 6 - 8 weeks before I saw steady benefits i.e. steady 2 - 3 lb loss per week.
You need to follow a sensible diet and start exercising. Start eating fruits and vegetables and lean protein.
There is a great show on the Lifestyle channel, Cook Yourself Thin. They show you how to change your fave recipes to low fat, low calorie. It’s a really neat show.
Their idea is that you take your goal weight and multiply by 10. This number is your maximum daily calories.
You need to eat what's called filling foods to not get hungry all the time. Things like apples and bananas are filling. Almost all types of beans, garbanzo, green, kidney, re-fried fat-free, beets, cauliflower are some of the many filling veggies.
Avoid over-use of salt, you will retain water.
Drink water, and if you don’t like it plain try a little squeezed lemon or lime in it. Drink at least 8 ozs before each meal.
You may also want to try switching from 3 meals a day and eating 4 or 5 lighter meals.
Exercise, ... if you don’t already start walking or anything. Just don’t overdo it at first or you will find reasons to stop.
Losing weight requires a lifestyle change.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
What is the least amount of fat you can eat in a healthy diet?
I know your body needs some fats, but a lower fat diet is certainly healthiest. What is a low fat diet? I mean, going completely fat free is unhealthy, but eating 65 grams of fat (recommended for a 2,000 calorie diet) is not necessary. Can I be healthy just getting the fats from healthy foods like breads and oatmeal? Sorry for all of the questions- I could just brainstorm on this topic.-
ANSWER:
Too often, this question is inaccurately answered. Weight loss guru's tend to tout what they see as problems with fat intake, and many people who think they are cardiologists speak up with false information. There is a lot more to proper nutrition than total calories or someone's errorenous ideas about "max fat grams." For example, you have to consume fat with carbohydrates in order to metabolize the carbs. Fat in the diet is necessary for absorption of fat soluable vitamins. There are many facts to consider.
Here is a question presented to a nutritionist on this topic:QUESTION: I eat a balanced diet except I concentrate on the fat content. If it's available in non-fat such as milk or cheese, that's what I buy and eat. My fat intake is typically between 5 and 10% of my calories. I do weight train and do cardio workouts three times a week. Is my fat intake too low?
ANSWER: Possibly. Consider these facts about your body's need for fat.
It is recommended that people consume 30% of total daily calories from fat, 55% from carbohydrates and 15% from protein. So, you are not consuming nearly enough fat in your diet according to these guidelines.
Fats perform many vital roles to aid in the body's functions. Triglycerides, the main form of fat in the body and in foods, constitute most of the stored energy in the body. Triglycerides yield over twice as much energy per gram as carbohydrates and protein (fats provide 9 calories per gram, while carbohydrates and protein provide 4 calories per gram). The free fatty acids, released from triglycerides are the major source for fuel for the body at rest and during light activity.
Triglycerides and other lipids (fat) in foods also carry fat-soluble vitamin A ,D, E and K to the small intestine. In doing so, lipids aid in absorption of these nutrients. Without fat you are at risk for developing deficiencies of these vitamins.
Food fat causes the stomach to empty more slowly than either carbohydrates or protein and it imparts satiety - the satisfied feeling you have after eating. If you reduce your fat intake below 20% of total energy intake, you will get hungry quicker.
The essential fatty acids, omega-3 and omega-6, are substances that need to come from the diet. They are necessary building materials for molecules and compounds that perform such vital functions in your body as regulation of blood pressure, blood clotting, immune response and childbirth. Excellent sources of these essential fatty acids are salad dressings containing Canola or soybean oil, salmon, tuna and sardines.
Another thing to be aware of is when fat is removed from a product, something else must be added, usually carbohydrates in order to maintain a desirable taste and texture. For this reason, many fat-reduced and fat-free products are still very energy dense - containing a high amount of calories. Remember that calories count too, no matter if they come from fat, carbohydrates or protein so be sure to moderate your portions if you consume a lot of fat reduced products. Consider the increase in the number of low fat foods while the American public's average weight has gone up. Low fat and fat free foods are not the magic solution for weight loss.
Have you tried the Healthy Body Calculator? If you put your physical data and activities in, it will calculate a healthy amount of calories and fat based on your nutrition goals.
A trained and licensed nutritionist is your friend. There is way too much nutrition quackery in the world today. If you read something about nutrition, check for the author's credentials before you take it as fact. The word "Moderation" is key, and if you eat fresh healthy foods in moderation, you will be eating a healthy diet.
Hope this helps answer your question.

What is a healthy diet for two baby red eared slider turtles?
i just figured out that my two baby turtles have metabolic bone disease and i need to know if what i am feeding them is right. what is a healthy diet for them??
i just got my turtles in july and they are not very old-
ANSWER:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/29035692@N03/sets/72157607029550534/They need calcium from the bones from the fish they eat and they get protein from the fish bones. They need leafyu greens like Romaine lettuce,Kale squash,grapes,strawberries..google vehggioes with vitamin A and see what you have at home. You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily drop 20 or so in the tanks and watch them disappear in a few days! When I got these two 36 yrs ago all we had in back then were goldfish to feed , so after 36 yrs and still going strong. They can eat goldfish!
This way when they swim for their dinner they get exercise also!
I also feed dried cubed blood worms or tubiflex worms at least 5 times a week.
They sleep at the bottom of rivers, streams. lakes or ponds or your tank to avoid predators like coyotes, foxes, owls, hawks, possums, raccoons and even some wide mouth bass.***TOSS in a bird cuttle bone in the water for calcium that will promot better shell growth, it will dissolve real slow and if they eat it that’s fine!!
They can have garden worms, meal worms, snails, crickets, flies, crayfish small frogs, dragon flies and anything that moves, but only as a treat. These also have protein special garden worms!
They need leafy greens Romaine, Butter lettuce. (Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any other leafy greens will do) for vitamin A that they need at least 3 to 4 times a week.
You probably already know that they get sick easily, shell rot, respiratory sickness, lopsided swimming, coughing, blowing bubbles from their nose. Fungus white cotton patches on their skin?
**Swollen cloudy eyes which means lacking in Vitamin A. Which we all need for good eyes. Google ‘vegetables with Vitamin A.Contact the “www.anapsid.org/societies, for a turtle vet / RESCUE in your city and state.
May I suggest The bigger the environment the bigger the healthier the turtle. Remember 10 gallons for every inch of turtle. I have used kiddy pools and plastic pond liners from most nurseries and worked great.
Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA/UVB for up to 8 hrs a day for the vitamin D that they need to grow. So that means getting a turtle dock also.
Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always. These turtles in captivity do not hibernate their eating may slow down some but they will not hibernate. These are not cuddly pets and will bite very very hard. Under 4" they carry a disease called 'salmonella'. So you must wash after every handling.Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they poop allot. You need a good filter system!
Total Body length: 5-8" average for males, up to 12 inches max for females. Life span: 15-25+ years
Males have the longer front nails and are used in mating. And are considered mature at about 5 yrs old. You can’t start sexing till about 3” across.
Gravel larger than they can swallow.Email me if ya need help,K. You will save them. Just feed them some great foods and watch them grow.
I wish you luck.

QUESTION:
Is a healthy diet more important when you are young or when you are old?
Are there any reliable studies on this issue? On the one hand, I can see how a healthy diet when you are young might set in motion some long term positvie health benefits. On the other hand, it may be the case that children's bodies are so efficient at squeezing the nutrition out of the foods that they eat that a child's poor diet may not have the detrimental effects that an older person's poor diet would. My 8 year old son's diet is very limited, yet surprisingly, at least to me, he acts and looks very physically healthy.-
ANSWER:
Both - it's important at every stage of your life. When you're young and your body is still growing, it's very important to have all the right nutrients for building bones, teeth, muscles, organs, etc., as well as providing energy. It's true also that reinforcing healthy food choices for a child will set a pattern which he will probably follow throughout his life, and this is further protection for his health.Recent studies are showing more and more how important good nutrition is as we're aging, though. Some conditions thought to be unavoidable or irreversible as a result of aging have responded well to a healthy diet. Conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes have shown greatly reduced symptoms in studies of adults with these health problems after they were put on diets with specific foods in them. We know now, too, that a number of fruits & vegetables have strong anti-oxidant properties, preventing a number of cancers and slowing or stopping the spread of cancer in people who have the disease.
A healthy diet strengthens our immune systems and cleanses toxins from our bodies, helping us fight off disease and helping our whole bodies function better. This is true from infancy to old age. I had heard from a pediatrician that if a child goes through a period of being picky or eating very few foods, it's not cause for concern. I've watched my 6 and 8 year-old sons go through phases of not eating certain foods, and I've seen them slowly come around to eating those foods they used to refuse. The best thing to do is to keep offering your son a healthy variety, and show by your example to do the same; these will have an influence on what he eats.
As far as sources for studies on diet and health, I've seen numerous articles in the last few years in medical, health, and nutrition magazines reporting studies about nutrients in foods and their individual properties. You could go to the library and go back through a year of issues from a particular publication and easily find several articles on the subject. A good one with reliable sources and reports on these studies is Prevention magazine; I read this one myself.

QUESTION:
Have you got a healthy diet schedule for me?
Ok, so if you have read my last 2 questions you will know i am trying to make it into a Professional wrestling career so have you got a diet that's healthy. Its mainly focused on building muscle, energy, good health and losing fat. So any schedules or advice would be greatly appreciated.-
ANSWER:
The first thing my son did when he got into wrestling was to get tons of grapefruit and every morning he drank a couple of cups of coffee and ate 1/2 grapefruit(eat a whole if they are small)with it. The caffeine is actually a fat burner and some acid in the grapefruit allows that caffeeine to burn more fat longer. In addition, my son ate a lot of salad and a lot of protein--for snacks it was fruits instead of cookies and goodies, and I have to say that it worked so well for him that I recently started a grapefruit regimen myself and it really works. This is what I do:
1 24oz cup of fat free or low fat yogurt
1-2 cups of coffee and 1/2 to 1 grapefruit in the morning--plenty of water in between.
lunch:
I only eat European Rye bread from Russia or Germany because it is not made with yeast and doesn't keep you hungry---I put butter and lunnchmeat on it or butter and preserves--whatever I like--2 of those slices and I am full. For snacks I usually have fresh fruit, whatever I got in the house.
For supper I eat a lot of veggies and a lot of lean meat(chicken, turkey)--my son ate steaks as well. I try to avoid all starchy carbs in the evening. Sometimes I do eat fruit, but I have to say to my amazement that I do not even get so hungry that I want to snack a lot. I think it's the yogurt--it is shockful of protein, but also loaded with carbs which provide energy to the body. I hope this helps

QUESTION:
Is the Raw Food Diet really the most healthy diet in the world?
Is it the most healthy diet due to the fact that you are basing your diet on fresh fruit and vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, grains, beans, nuts, dried fruit, and seaweed? I consume these things already but I have some non-fat yogurt, milk, and free-range meats (beef, poultry, lamb, etc) in my diet also. Is this best, or would it actually be more beneficial to go raw?-
ANSWER:
Best to not just listen to anyone else and follow your body. If something effects you a bit adversly, then totally cut it out of your diet.
Then your body vibration will improve and the next item, that didn't effect you before will start to effect you a bit. So cut that out also.
Follow this path along deleting as you get sensitive and you will end up on the ideal diet for yourself, if you do it diligently
I did and ended up on raw food for three years ,and have been a vegan sportsman for 36 more years now [57 years young now]
I love and feel great on green smoothies [green veg from garden, mango and apple fresh juice, spiralina, a few walnuts, and dates if you like .definitely gives you a positive lift. l am going to start a green smoothie club here.
Enjoy the process.

QUESTION:
What is a good and healthy diet for a ballet dancer?
Say you have a 105 lb ballet dancer. 5 foot 3She exercises 8 hours a week in ballet classes and then 4 hours or so in aerobics classes.
How many calories approximately should she be taking in daily?
What is a good diet for her in order to keep at a healthy weight?
-
ANSWER:
depending on age, i would not worry too much about calorie intake.
if there is a low calorie option, you can have it, but quantity is really the issue. don't think drinking a diet soda will help. if you want a soda, just drink the real thing because there isn't much of a difference (unless you're diabetic).you shouldn't really have more than one soda a day (about 6-7 teaspoons of sugar in a 12 oz can).
drink a lot of water instead. most normal people don't drink enough water each day, and most dancers i know don't either (and they need far more than normal people).
you should eat a fairly balanced diet (eat from all your food groups, lots of veggies, fruit, and dairy). women naturally have issues with retaining calcium and with bone density. women that are extremely active (especially dancers) have weaker bones than most and require more calcium than normal women to keep their bones healthy. so lots of milk (which has also been proven to help with weight loss) and a calcium supplement could help.
if you have to have a big meal, make the biggest breakfast.
eat lots of small healthy meals throughout the day. this helps to keep your stomach small, increase your metabolism, and burn calories faster.
when eating protein, like meats, don't eat servings larger than the thickness and width of the palm of your hand. people don't actually need more than 3 of those servings of protein a day.
if you need snacks between meals, eat something healthy like grapes or apple slices. if you visit fast food chains a lot, like burger king or mcdonalds, they both have very large salad options on their menus, as well as packaged apple slices. salads with cheese, a little dressing (thats where the calories are in salads), with some grilled chicken can make for a delicious meal, also very good for you if dark greens like spinach are used.
if you read on the back of most foods, it says "based on a 2000 calorie diet" i'm not the healthiest person around (certainly not the healthiest eating dancer), and i don't even intake 2000 calories a day.
i'm 5' 9" and weigh 127lbs. the last time i counted i took in about 1200 cal. and i'm actually under the recommended weight for my height.most people have a general idea about what is healthy, but just don't eat those things. if you are truly eating non greasy/fatty foods and are not eating loads of sugars, and eating the proper serving size of each food, everything should be fine.

QUESTION:
What would be a good healthy diet for someone with crohn's?
I have crohn's disease and it is hard for me to eat anything that has a lot of fiber in it, like steamed vegetables, raw vegetables, cereals, etc. So my diet mainly consists of carbs and meat. Along with this not so varitable diet and my treatments I am gaining a lot of weight. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can maintain a healthy diet and lose some weight without causing a flare up?-
ANSWER:
Most folks with crohn's find that a gluten free diet eliminates many symptoms. I know you feel like you don't want to cut out MORE foods, but I highly suggest you give a high saturated fat (especially from virgin coconut oil) diet a good trial. You might also want to try chia seeds, they are high fiber but the fiber is encased in a gel sack that makes it easier on the digestive system.Nearly 6 years ago, I started Atkins low carb way of eating to just quit gaining weight. I had to get my out of control appetite under control. I never imagined I could LOSE weight without hunger or exercise, since I've become disabled. I never bothered weighing or measuring til I'd noticed that my clothes got huge quick. When my health improved dramatically also, I knew this was my new way of life and since it's eat all you want (of low carb foods) I know I can do this for life.
My personal carb level is low. I am older & disabled & don't move much (or cook much) but I eat all I want of meats, eggs, cheeses, yogurt, fats, green vegetables, almonds, berries, flax seeds, chia seeds, shirataki noodles and other foods. Someone active would have a MUCH higher carb level & can usually include all fruits, beans, whole grain products but not sugar & highly refined carbs in unlimited amounts. As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn't gain weight, no matter the calories.
Most overweight & obese people have blood sugar & insulin dysfunctions and can NEVER eat carbs as someone with a functioning body can. They make the mistake of going back to the way of eating that made them fat and that is not possible and yes they will gain all weight back if they eat what they ate that made them obese originally. Insanity is defined as doing the exact same thing, in the exact same way and expecting different results. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.
You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.
The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more vegetables thereafter - add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)
Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.
The body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.
Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.
The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).
It takes minimum of 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) trigger insulin, the only fat storage hormone. Protein releases the fat burning hormone glucagon.
High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise.

QUESTION:
What healthy diet plan (not pills) have you had the most success with?
What diet plan have you had the most success with? Weight Watchers, The Biggest Loser diet, etc, plain old healthy eating in moderation, etc? What worked the best for you, and why?
-
ANSWER:
Diets don't work they are to hard to stick to. IF you truly want to lose weight and keep it off for good there are a few things you have to do. Portion control, eat what a TRUE serving is!!!! Eat about six small meals instead of three large ones, Eat more fruits and vegetables and whole grains. Cut down on your protein we as Americans eat more than our bodies truly need any way. And exercise even if you just add 15 minutes a day walking into your day you will start to lose weight, if you do all of the other things also. You don't have to stop eating what you like, You just have to eat it in the correct portions rather than what we've gotten used to. IF you do this you will lose weight, maybe not as fast as you would like but you will lose weight and you will keep it off. The faster that you lose weight usually the faster that you gain it back again. We need to eat more like our parents did and less like the media would want us to.

QUESTION:
What will happen after I have done the Atkins Diet and go back to a normal, healthy diet?
I am going to do the induction phase of the atkins diet (2 weeks) to kick start my weight loss - however, can anyone tell me what will happen when I return to a healthy, low fat diet afterwards? I don't want to put any weight loss back on again.I KNOW the best way is to exercise and eat a healthy diet from the outset, but the above is an option I am considering, I'd appreciate it if anyone who has done similar can tell me of their experiences.
Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
I have done this exact thing, and as long as you do not over eat you will not put weight back on like they say. I went on atkins to take off a few pounds fast. I lost 7lbs in 2 weeks, and then I went on a 1,300 calorie/day diet. I did not gain weight, I continued to lose weight. However, I used this http://ifinallydidit.wordpress.com/ to help suppress my appetite so that I wouldn't over eat, because I had a bad habit of doing that. Good luck!

QUESTION:
What is a good balance for carbs and protein in a healthy diet?
I'm trying to establish a healthy diet to follow. I don't want to follow any fancy plan but I want to make sure it's balanced. What is a good ratio for carbs and protein in a diet? Right now for every protein I eat I seem to eat 2 carbs.-
ANSWER:
This is a complex topic. Please read "Eat More, Weigh Less" by Dr. Dean Ornish. Go to the library and borrow the book.My personal choice is to avoid junk food and eat raw whole foods as much as possible. That means leafy green vegetables, other vegetables, fruits, sprouted beans, brown rice, and whole grains. Eat some vegetarian sources of oil (these are required), but don't over do it. You do not need to eat dairy or meat for a healthy diet if you eat a balanced vegetarian diet. If you do eat them, do it in limited quantities.
Most degenerative diseases are from over consumption of protein and fat rich foods. Avoid convenience and packaged foods because they contain excitotoxins, colorings, preservatives, and other additives that may or may not have been tested. MSG and aspartame should be avoided.
Instead of commercial drinks, make your own green smoothies with lemon, kale, mint, spinach, bananas, and other fruits and vegetables in a good blender.

QUESTION:
Does a healthy diet make exercise feel good?
I had never really eaten all that well in the past. But about 6 months ago, I changed my eating habits drastically... I live on a Vegan diet, and strictly organic foods. Since the change in my diet, I have noticed that when I started exercising again, it feels GREAT! It's ecstatic! It feels like I am on drugs haha. Anyways, what I am asking is... Does healthy food really have this affect? Or was I just a lazy bastard who was ignorant to the beauty of exercise?-
ANSWER:
Dr. T. Colin Campbell did an experiment and found that that mice on a 5% animal protein diet chose to run on their exercise wheels about twice as much as mice on a 20% animal protein diet, beginning on the very first day of the diet and lasting through the two weeks of the study.

ANSWER:
http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/magazine/interactive/bmi/index.aspx set yourself a healthy goalto maintain your current weight you should eat 2000kcals per day. so to lose weight you need to restrict this to 1500kcals. but make sure you eat no less than 1500kcals as this will slow your metabolism & you won't lose anything.
if you are restricting your diet it's also a good idea to take a multivitamin to ensure you are getting all your vital nutrients.
if you cut your cals back to 1500 per day & do exercise 2-3 times per week you will lose 1-3lbs per week easily.
drink plently of water, try & increase the amount of fruit & veg you eat & swap white bread for brown bread, full cream milk to skimmed milk etc.

How to achieve a healthy diet?
I have recently read somewhere that having a healthy diet is the key essential formula for getting rid of spots (acne). Although my spots aren't that bad i was just wondering what foods you need to eat daily to be having what would be considered a healthy diet?-
ANSWER:
Leafy green vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, brown rice, and other vegetables. You might need a Omega-3 fatty acid supplement, but you can stop eating every other animal fat and for that matter animal protein. Eat beans and brown rice for protein. If you don't like brown rice, eat some other whole grain with your beans.
Animal fats and proteins are your enemy.

QUESTION:
why healthy diet important for people with diabetes?
I want to know why healthy diet important for people with diabetes? Can you please help me to find why healthy diet important for people with diabetes.-
ANSWER:
A person with diabetes would need to stick to a healthy diet, my friend, because you're attempting to control your blood glucose levels. We break down foods that we eat, during the digestive process, into a simple sugar called glucose that gets absorbed through the walls of the intestines into the bloodstream. In diabetic patients this rise in blood glucose levels causes damage to organs, blood vessels, and nerves. Obviously, that's something that you try to avoid.
Glucose is used by the body's cells to create energy, which keeps us alive. To be able to do this, glucose needs to be transported into the body's cells, and to do this it needs the hormone insulin, which is produced by the pancreas to transport the glucose. In diabetics there either isn't insulin being produced (type 1 diabetes) or the insulin that is being produced can't be used efficiently (type 2 diabetes).
Eating a healthy diet, that's low in carbohydrates and trans-fats enables a diabetic person to better control the levels at which their blood glucose rises to. Coupled with medication(s) and exercise, this enables a diabetic to delay/defer complications that would otherwise set in if the diabetes wasn't controlled.
