Chances are, when you are eating something unhealthy, you know you shouldn't be eating it (even if you don't like to admit it to yourself).First thing to look at is calories. Keep your calorie intake low. I am currently consuming 1100 - 1200 per day and I am 5'4'' 179lbs (down from 224lbs, in only 3 months). While the calories tell you a little something about what you are about to eat (chances are, if it's higher in calories it's going to have other bad stuff going on as well), you still need to look at fat (no trans fats!), sugar, cholesterol, sodium and carbs.
Include high fiber and protein in your diet, especially if you are working out, but also because they help curb your appetite somewhat.
If you only have a "muffin top" to worry about, you won't even need to utilize the whole 4-5 months to lose the weight. The thing to remember is that, if you get back into your old habits, the weight WILL come back.

I read the article as well. I am doing the same diet. I only have about 20 lbs. to lose, however. It is important to remember to have the snacks listed (or other variations/healthy snacks) and get lean protein (also mentioned in the article) at least once a day. Some cereals and yogurts have protein, but it is not enough for an entire day's worth. Protein helps build muscle and fills you up faster, thus helping speed up metabolism and contributing to weight loss. Also simple exercise is vital with this diet (I think this was mentioned in the article.....) such as walking/biking/aerobics/yoga....something low intensity for a long time. This helps firm and shed at the same time. And this kind of exercise is easy to get in every single day. I think this diet is good and much more affordable than most others, and right now, cost is very important. It should make it easier to stick to the diet. 1) It is not just the amount you eat, but what you eat. Lean meats and vegtables that snap are a good place to start. And by snap I mean fresh and not boiled or doused with better or whatever.
2) Exercise moderatly but for about an hour every other day. Spend half of that walking or running at a good enough pace for you to feel labored. The other half of the time use weights, or exercises such as push ups or situps to get a muscle "burn". A gym is also an option, but I don't know if you have the money for or want to spend the money on it.
3) Sleep well. To bed earlier and up earlier. Exercise in the morning when you wake up, not in the evening before bed. 7 hours of GOOD sleep is a must.
4) Occupy yourself with a hobby that keeps your attention for a long period of time. A hobby like this keeps your mind focused and gives less of a chance for snacking from boredom.

But cutting down on calories dont cut it take sugary and fatty substances out of your diet.

no cake .....Also increase the protein intake. Eat proteins with low fat like chicken, fish, egg whites, whey protein shakes are good. Most of all eat your fruits and vegetables . Do not eat to late because it is a fact that you do not burn many calories sleeping so you gain weight by eating before you sleep. Eat small frequent meals. Meaning eat 5 times a day of small meals example:

You would be so much better off to lose weight if you stuck to real foods. For breakfast grab some fruit. If you are pressed for time in the mornings and dont want to get up any earlier, really think...how long does it take to reach out and grab an apple? Like 3 seconds and you could eat it on the way to work or school. And for lunch. Just choose wisely. A sandwich, hold the mayo. Or a salad with low fat dressing. Dinner doesn't have to be hard either. Even if you eat out, there are plenty of healthy choices. The biggest problem you'll encounter at restaurants is the portion size. Before you eat, divide your plate in half. Put one half in a to go box and that can be your dinner for the next day. Money saver
And as for those snacks. You don't have to buy all those expensive snack bars, even if you can afford it. Take carrots, crackers, flavored water. Many times one serving of a healthy real food choice is less fat and less calories than a small snack bar. And more filling since you are taking in more food technically. But less calories. 1 serving club crackers= 70 cal, 1g fat vs 1 Kashi snack bar = 130 cal, 3g fat. Everything makes a difference.Also exercise. I don't know by your info if you do or not. And it doen't have to be this super sweat jam, doesn't have to be an hour a day, you don't even have to go to the gym. 3-4 days a week, spend 30 min (its really not that much. Even with warm up and cool down time at most you'll spend 45 min). Do this when you get back from work or school (again idk which applies to you). If you need a pick me up before you begin just grab some juice. Stay away from foods until after you exercise. 15 min strength exercises and 15 cardio. There are plenty of modified forms if you aren't there yet. And you don't have to sprint the cardio portion. About 5 different strength exercise is what usually takes up 15 min. And walk or light jog the other 15 min.
You don't need to buy nutrution bars or shakes. They never fill you up. And often times reall food has less cal/fat per serving than the shakes/bars do....if you chose right. And make sure to exercise. It is really hard to lose weight without it. Plus you will see faster results which will just motivate you more to keep going and it becomes a cycle.
i spent a lot of money and unsatisfaction on those shakes and bars until i realized i was overlooking the benefits of FOOD. Its more motivating to see the results you can get off of real food. And your more likely to keep the weight off because you have tested and proven which foods can help you . You can't just avoid the issue by eating those bars until you've lost the weight and then go back to what you were eating.

As for diet, be sure you are eating 4 - 6 balanced meals every day. By balanced, this means having a healthy protein and carb source. Healthy proteins, such as lean meats, fish, and low fat dairy. Healthy carb sources such as fruits, veggies, and whole grain breads, pasta and rice.
If you do begin to add some resistance into your daily routine, whatever that may be, you may find that you get hungrier throughout the day. That's normal and means your body requires more energy to refuel and rebuild muscle.

A favorite meal of mine is spagetti squash (0 points) with marinara sauce (1 point per 1/2 cup) and a salad with lemon juice or a fat free dressing (0 points). You can add whole grain bread to it for just 1 point per slice. The whole meal ends up being under 5 points, and I'm FULL! This way I can have a glass of wine with my meal and no guilt. (2 points)

I used to struggle with belly fat too.
I found that cutting out sugar and saturated fats, and taking fish oils helped hugely when I lost my belly fat. I also increased lean meat like chicken, ate eggs and almonds and apples. Cinnamon is also good. I ate smaller portions too and had healthy snacks between meals.Up till I changed my diet the weight always went on my stomach, like a magnet!
If you want a nice toned tum you don't need to do sit ups, but you do need exercise, so even though you say you are too lazy I bet you would find that you'd love the buzz that exercise gives you. I found some great techniques on a website that gave me an amazing toned tum, and I'm older than you by a bit (a lot actually!)
