Diet And Acne – There Is A Deep Relationship Between The Two, But Still No Diet Can Cure Acne. Find Out More From A Lifelong Acne Researcher

Medical profession had long believed that acne and diet were never linked together. Food, they had agued, comes no where near to acne which can only be traced to the genes and also to hormonal imbalance during puberty – but now recent studies have come up with factual evidence which confirms that certain types of food trigger acne while others retard its progression. It is not accepted that diet impacts the levels of hormones and the toxins in the body. There are some nutrients that can optimize the diet and thereby reduce the inflammation and prevent acne.

Guided through this fact, we may come to the conclusion that selective diets have strong cumulative effect on our body and mind and food can very well shape it to the desired level – both from the outside as well as the inside. It also nullifies the notion so far held among the knowledgeable circle that diet has very little or no impact chronic disease condition like the acne.

The strongly established link between diet and acne has been established by Dr. Cordian, who while conducting a research on people living in the Kitavan Islands found that none of the islanders had acne. Mind you, there was no cosmetic medicinal facility available in that remote island, and there were no professional dermatologist to advise the natives about hormone imbalance. Of course there were no drugs too. It was nothing but traditional food that the innocent natives consumed which prevented the spread of this distressing disease condition.

Studies have proved that elimination of certain kinds of food items like hydrogenated oils, refined carbohydrates, dairy products and yeasty savories from the menu spontaneously reduce chances of acne formation while their inclusion in the diet may trigger acne. But this does not mean that an acne diet alone will prevent or control acne on its own.

Selective food alone cannot prevent or cure acne. That is because it is but one of the several contributory factors that trigger acne. There are other more complex factors which collectively contribute towards the formation of acne. In fact, this multi-dimensional disease condition may first be internally controlled through diet but for a radical cure, the only way out is holistic treatment that ensures that all these internal factors are fixed for lifelong acne freedom. But changing the diet is a good starting point.

In view of the learned researcher’s observations, it may be rightly asserted that food and acne are co-related and should be treated as such. However food cannot directly cause acne because then with all of us having wrong food, everyone would have had acne – but that is not the case. People seeking a radical cure should look for holistic way of treatment to get rid of this painful and irritating disease condition. The holistic approach fixes the internal causes and also shows what the right diet would be.

  1. QUESTION:
    diet tips?
does anyone have any good diet tips? please dont tell me just diet and exercise because i already know that. im 16... im not paranoid about my weight just looking to get in a little better shape for summer. keep in mind that i play soccer about 3 or 4 times a week. also i dont eat ANY veggies. not one. i know its sad, so i take a multivitamin instead.
any tips are appreciated... thanks so much!

    • ANSWER:
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
      8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

  2. QUESTION:
    Diet tips?
Do any of you have reasonable diet tips?
I want healthful tips that will still help me lose weight,
i don;t want to go out of control or anything though!
What are good ideas of what i should eat for breakfast, dinner, and lunch each day. i am still in school so i can't have any like special lunches really. thank you and more details are to come soon! ♥
Also, what are some foods available in LIGHT, and what food is yummy that you recommend that is light?

    • ANSWER:
I'm not going to discuss actual foods but more the idea of food portion and routine.

-Eat a good breakfast, this gets your metabolism up and going.
-Consider trying 4-6 smaller but healthy meals instead of larger 2-3 meals as the constant food digestion will, overtime, keep your metabolism at a more consistent level for you to notice and calculate results.
-WATER WATER WATER. If you are full on it, you have less room for a larger meal. Drink 8 oz before meals.
      -Don't eat right before bed.
-Bring you lunch to school or ask about healthy alternatives (there is no reason you have to have that slice of pizza just because you are in the cafeteria).
-Go easy on yourself and allow yourself to splurge and not deprive yourself especially on special occassions and as a treat for a good job.
-Get support from friends and family who can encourage you with health eating and choices. Get someone who will diet with you!
-Exercise - and get in the routine.

Don't try to put too many new "rules" on to yourself all at once. Dieting is a marathon, not a sprint. You are attempting to change lifestyle choices, not just food choices.

      Good luck!

  4. QUESTION:
    DIET TiPS!!!!?
PLEASE HELP I WANA LOSE FIVE POUNDS LOL DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY GOOD DIET TIPS??? LIKE, WHATS THE FASTEST WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT IN THREE OR FOUR DAYS??? IT DOESNT MATTER IF IT SOUNDS CRAZY PLEASE TELL ME.....JUST NOOO DRUGS!!!! THANKS!!!!

    • ANSWER:
Well even if you would lose 5 pounds in 3 days you would most likely gain it back right away because the only way you could lose that much weight in such a short amount of time would be by starving yourself, which is not the answer.
I would say to say goodbye to all the unhealthy indulgences: candy, chips, etc. and begin to eat smaller meals containing veggies, fruits, whole grains, etc.
Also, exercising especially running is a great way to lose weight.
      Good Luck.

  5. QUESTION:
Any good diet or exercise tips for building arm strength?
I am a 26 year old male and have embarrassingly thin arms! My leg and stomach muscles are fine but despite doing jobs in the past that require a lot of heavy lifting I never seem to put any muscles or even fat on in my arms. Any exercise or diet tips would be appreciated.
I probaly didn't explain diet part of question correctly. I don't need to loose weight if anything I am underweight and need to gain it. Was looking for food/drinks that are good to boost strength whilst exercising.

    • ANSWER:
      G'day

If you want to gain some muscles in your arms aim to train both the bicep and tricep. Try and do 3 sets of 8 reps and no more than 3 exercises for each body part.
You need to eat a lot of protein based foods to help repair the muscle after a workout such as redmeat, eggs, tuna etc and drink milk and plenty of water.

I change my training routine a fair bit but i would recommend some of the classic lifts to build up your arms.

      Bicep:
Barbell Curl 3 sets of 8
Dumbell Curl 3 sets of 8'
Preacher Curl 3 sets of 8

      Triceps:
Tricep pushdowns 3 sets of 8
      Skullcrushers 3 sets of 8
Tricep extension 3 sets of 8

      Good luck! :)

  9. QUESTION:
What can I do to put on 20 pounds of pure muscle in several months? diet tips and workout tips?
I am looking for an extremely specific routine was exact details. Exact things in the gym and diet tips. I want a program where i don't have to go in the gym that much because tennis takes up a huge portion of my life and i also have fitness for tennis. I want to get noticeably big and muscular but i also want to continue to work on my tennis with the same intensity. Please help!

    • ANSWER:
Max, you're probably not ready to hear this, but maximizing your life equation for anabolism will necessarily deprecate your tennis training because tennis is a highly aerobic, cardio-intense activity that is also fairly catabolic. In other words, your intense tennis activities will continue to inhibit your muscle growth until you're ready to take muscle growth more seriously than tennis.

Having said that, there are plenty of variables left in the equation that you can work with despite your massively inhibiting tennis habit. Have a look at the recent clinical evidence on diet and technique for muscle hypertrophy/anabolism.

      1) Take 3g of GABA at least once per day. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18091016 - 3g GABA QUADRUPLES growth hormone levels!
      2) Post-Training Meditation - http://www.ergo-log.com/meditationhormones.html
      3) Have lean protein for breakfast: eggs, steak, yogurt and/or a protein shake
      4) Stock low-fat, low-carb, protein rich foods and snacks such as yogurt, milk, hard-boiled eggs, lean marinated chicken breasts and unprocessed, unsalted nuts - make your own lean & clean trail mix with almonds, cashews, pecans, walnuts, dried fruits and yogurt or dark chocolate. Don't let your baseline blood sugar trough while you're recovering from workouts; keep feeding the furnace with protein at least once every two hours.
      5) Avoid drinking any form of cola, at all. It inhibits protein synthesis, which means you won't grow much muscle while drinking it. http://www.ergo-log.com/milkcola.html Drink milk and fresh-brewed green tea instead of colas, soft drinks or alcohol. "Improved endurance capacity following chocolate milk consumption compared with 2 commercially available sport drinks."
      6) Use a twice-daily combinatorial protein and ALA supplement offset from workout times (i.e., morning and night) but drink creatine solution during resistance training
      7) Take quercetin to reduce post-workout inflammation and boost mitochondrial biogenesis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quercetin
      8) Learn the basics of training if you haven't already—http://exercise.about.com/cs/exerciseworkouts/a/weight101.htm—and learn how high-quality rest is at least as important as exercise for anabolism
      9) Use clinically proven, evidence-based weightlifting techniques including muscle confusion, eccentric loading and optimal intensity for maximum ROI. Concentrate especially on "the big three": squats, deadlifts and bench press, for maximum returns for effort.
      10) Keep up-to-date about muscle and fitness by bookmarking the best, most objective online sources (PUBMED, etc.) and mix in alternatives such as hemp protein, vibrational and TENS/EMS techniques ( http://www.medword.com/MedwordStore/PCP/EMS_truth.html ) from time to time to see whether you get good results.

Good luck, and remember that serving the two masters of tennis and muscle hypertrophy is not ideal.

  14. QUESTION:
Need some diet tips. Tomorrow I want to start a healthy regimen. Any tips?
I want to lose a little weight, but I'm willing to take it slow: I want to make serious diet changes for life. Any tips? thank you

    • ANSWER:
      Hi DolcePrincesa,

There are some things you can do. First, to start losing weight follow these three simple steps.

      1. Eat a healthy breakfast each morning.
      2. Drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water each day (a little more if you can).
      3. Don't eat after 7pm.

Eating breakfast each day will help curb your appetite. Drinking water will help you stay full through the day, not to mention, it's healthy for you in and of itself. Not eating late at night will make sure you don't pack the calories on while you sleep.

Diet is the most important (in my opinion). But exercise is a great way to burn calories. If you can, do aerobic exercise for 20 minutes, four days per week. If you can do more in a few weeks, increase the number of minutes you exercise, or days, and you will burn even more calories.

If you want a great resource to plan your meals each day, use the MyPyramid.gov Menu Planner. It's free and you can find it at http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov/planner/launchPage.aspx.

You can also find some great resources (free) at http://a-healthy-life.com/lose-weight-healthy.html#anchor_35. Use the Instant Health Tool there to figure out how many calories you should eat each day to lose weight. It's a great tool.

Also, you can get some more free tips by reading an article at http://ezinearticles.com/?Top-3-Ways-to-Lose-Weight-and-Burn-Fat---The-Healthy-Way!&id=3227932.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

How do I shrink my hips and waist and make my neck thicker? Exercise and diet tips?
I am 5'2" and 175 and trying to join the Army (my husband is already in). I've had a thyroid problem that has now been resolved but kept me from losing weight. I just started my Slim-Fast diet on 5/21. Currently take in no soda, have two Slim-Fast one for lunch and one for dinner. Two fruit or veggie snacks. Turkey or Chicken for dinner protein and a HUGE salad with limited Fat Free dressing. I need to lose at least 20 lbs. ASAP and any additional diet tips and exercises that will take inches of my waist and hips or thicken my neck would be helpful. Also walking/jogging 4.5 miles a day. I need to lose this weight so I can sign up for the Army!!!!

    • ANSWER:
Keep on doing what you're doing. Add some core exercises (sit-ups and crunches, etc.) and push-ups since those are things you'll have to do to pass your P.F.T.

Try to up the jogging to a run in little bits at a time since you'll have to run a certain distance in a certain amount of time.

If you fall off the wagon for a day (or meal) get back on it and keep on trying! Good luck!!

  17. QUESTION:
How do I convince my mind to stop overeating? Diet Tips and Tricks?
im trying to lose weight and i need some diet tips, and tricks. maybe even some psychological tricks to losing weight

    • ANSWER:
Please check the other posts for great tips about psychological tricks and learning about mindful eating. My interest is in the physiological component of overeating. First let me describe a disease called sleep apnea which will trigger ravenous appetite which no amount of mindful eating will defeat.

Those who suffer from a sleep disorder are likely to over eat when their body confuses sleep deprivation with starvation. This is called sleep apnea and it's a very common problem. The more you eat, the bigger problem your sleep apnea will become. Ask your roommate if you snore. (You will not know about this symptom if you sleep alone, because you never hear your own snoring ).

In Western cultures, we live in toxic food environments. The food industry makes money by making their food physiologically and psychologically addictive. The food industry adjusts dosages of sugar, fat, salt, caffeine, MSG, and aspartame. These are addictive substances that have a chemical effect on your brain. We evolved in an environment that had inconsistent supplies of calories and nutrients. The body stored calories in fat cells when food was abundant, and survived during periods of famine by using fat cell energy. Today, Western cultures are in perpetual states of abundance. The food is incredibly rich in quantities that humans have never seen before. The body is hard-wired to like foods such as sugars and fats. A large percentage of people in Western cultures become addicted to these foods. Obesity continues to be a huge problem since the 1980s in the US.

The best publication in this field is by Dr. Neal Barnard. He has a seven step process for "Breaking the Food Seduction." Go to the library and check out this book. Part of it is available online for free through Google Books.

  23. QUESTION:
What are some good diet tips?
I'm starting a new diet. and i always give up in the middle. I'm thinking of starting an eating log but i don't know if that will help me. Any tips or pointers on what to eat, exercise, and stuff like that?

    • ANSWER:
      1. Add just one fruit or veggie serving daily. Get comfortable with that, then add an extra serving until you reach 8 to 10 a day.

      2. Eat at least two servings of a fruit or veggie at every meal.

      3. Resolve never to supersize your food portions—unless you want to supersize your clothes.

      4. Make eating purposeful, not mindless. Whenever you put food in your mouth, peel it, unwrap it, plate it, and sit. Engage all of the senses in the pleasure of nourishing your body.

      5. Start eating a big breakfast. It helps you eat fewer total calories throughout the day.

      6. Make sure your plate is half veggies and/or fruit at both lunch and dinner.

Are there Any Easy Tricks to Help Me Cut Calories?
      7. Eating out? Halve it, and bag the rest. A typical restaurant entree has 1,000 to 2,000 calories, not even counting the bread, appetizer, beverage, and dessert.

      8. When dining out, make it automatic: Order one dessert to share.

      9. Use a salad plate instead of a dinner plate.

      10. See what you eat. Plate your food instead of eating out of the jar or bag.

      11. Eat the low-cal items on your plate first, then graduate. Start with salads, veggies, and broth soups, and eat meats and starches last. By the time you get to them, you'll be full enough to be content with smaller portions of the high-calorie choices.

      12. Instead of whole milk, switch to 1 percent. If you drink one 8-oz glass a day, you'll lose 5 lb in a year.

      13. Juice has as many calories, ounce for ounce, as soda. Set a limit of one 8-oz glass of fruit juice a day.

      14. Get calories from foods you chew, not beverages. Have fresh fruit instead of fruit juice.

      15. Keep a food journal. It really works wonders.

      16. Follow the Chinese saying: "Eat until you are eight-tenths full."

      17. Use mustard instead of mayo.

      18. Eat more soup. The noncreamy ones are filling but low-cal.

      19. Cut back on or cut out caloric drinks such as soda, sweet tea, lemonade, etc. People have lost weight by making just this one change. If you have a 20-oz bottle of Coca-Cola every day, switch to Diet Coke. You should lose 25 lb in a year.

      20. Take your lunch to work.

      21. Sit when you eat.

      22. Dilute juice with water.

      23. Have mostly veggies for lunch.

      24. Eat at home.

      25. Limit alcohol to weekends.

How Can I Eat More Veggies?
      26. Have a V8 or tomato juice instead of a Diet Coke at 3 pm.

      27. Doctor your veggies to make them delicious: Dribble maple syrup over carrots, and sprinkle chopped nuts on green beans.

      28. Mix three different cans of beans and some diet Italian dressing. Eat this three-bean salad all week.

      29. Don't forget that vegetable soup counts as a vegetable.

      30. Rediscover the sweet potato.

      31. Use prebagged baby spinach everywhere: as "lettuce" in sandwiches, heated in soups, wilted in hot pasta, and added to salads.

      32. Spend the extra few dollars to buy vegetables that are already washed and cut up.

      33. Really hate veggies? Relax. If you love fruits, eat plenty of them; they are just as healthy (especially colorful ones such as oranges, mangoes, and melons).

      34. Keep seven bags of your favorite frozen vegetables on hand. Mix any combination, microwave, and top with your favorite low-fat dressing. Enjoy 3 to 4 cups a day. Makes a great quick dinner.

Can You Give Me a Mantra that will Help Me Stick to My Diet?
      35. "The best portion of high-calorie foods is the smallest one. The best portion of vegetables is the largest one. Period."

      36. "I'll ride the wave. My cravings will disappear after 10 minutes if I turn my attention elsewhere."

      37. "I want to be around to see my grandchildren, so I can forgo a cookie now."

      38. "I am a work in progress."

      39. "It's more stressful to continue being fat than to stop overeating."

I Eat Healthy, but I'm Overweight. What Mistakes Could I Be Making without Realizing It?
      40. Skipping meals. Many healthy eaters "diet by day and binge by night."

good diet tips for a model needing to loose 15 lbs.?
I am 5'9 and weigh 135 lbs. and I am starting my modeling portfolio and need to lose 15 lbs. before my photo shoot in two months. I don't want to gain a lot of muscle weight so can someone give me some good tips on how to lose this weight? Or any good diet tips?

keep in mind i want to do this health consciously, no starving myself or anything of that sort.

    • ANSWER:
Eat nutrient dense (and not energy dense) foods. That means vegetables and fruits largely. Vegetables especially often leave you with a high satiety without eating many calories. If you look at a portion of say asparagus one full cup is usually aorund 25 - 30 calories and will leave you feeling fuller then other energy rich foods.

Eat whole grain whenever possible. The fiber content of whole grains slow down the digestion process. That means a slow stream of calories the body is able to absorb rather then a quickly digested rush of calories in refined grains the body cant absorb properly and thus turns into fat to store.

Choose low saturated fat meats. Fish and Chicken. Try and cut out red meats altogether for their high saturated content. Fish especially is important for the Omega-3's which lower LDL's and help fight blood fats (triglycerides). Also replace even chicken with legumes, tofu, and quinoa to cut out the saturated fats altogether.

Soup! Soup is hydrating, has vegetables, protein, and often constitutes a complete healthful meal. It often is very filling for very few calories. Chicken noodle soup is a great example of this, often constituting between 350 - 550 calories for a full bowl depnding on how healthy you make it.

      Tips:

1 Cup of Coffee per day: Drinking coffee helps increase metabolic rate due to the caffeine. The high caffeine levels of coffee block adenosine, the hormone that makes us tired. As a result our body goes into emergency mode and releases adrenaline as a response. This increases our heart rate (which is why we get the jitters sometimes when we drink to much) which increases our caloric output. On average that means 100 calories per day for the average person.

1 Cup of Green Tea per day: Drinking green tea gives us EGCG. This potent anti-oxident actually increases synapsis firing in the brain. Why does this help? The brain is the single largest consumer of glucose in our body. The increased activity in the brain actually increases caloric output by about 78 calories per day on average.

Combine these two and thats 178 calories or abotu a mile and a half run at around a 7:45 minute per mile pace!

Hope this helps. Good luck. My personal inclination is that losing weight in and of itself at your height will be unhealthy so please choose this path carefully! For reference I am a sport nutrition under grad.

am I fat haha i know its weird not to know and any diet tips?
Ok so i am a 13 year old girl and i am 5'1 and 111.6 and I play some sports and I am trying to lose wight so any dieting tips???

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
You gotta watch out for sugar. That's what the true poison is. not calories. you think this is easy but when you look closely at nutrition facts, you'll see everything has sugar: juice, fruits, milk, and because you want to get healthy and not fat, you're going to have to avoid eating these, even if people tell you "oooh but fruitz r helthy". they tell you that you slap them in the face. Calories are synonomous with energy. you can burn non fat calories just by wlaking around or simple aily exercise. Of course you have to burn those calories off and calories from fat are also something you have to dodge, but you need a healthy amount of fat (found in avocados, or nuts) for your body to consume on a daily basis. AND NO SUGAR

  31. QUESTION:
Best work out and diet tips for gaing muscle.?
I'm planning on becoming a police officer and need to get in shape for the academy. Please give me advice and tips on how to do this. Please include work out plans, diets, and anything else that will help me gain muscle. I need upper, middle and body strength. THANK YOU!!!

    • ANSWER:
Im not going to go into detail on specific exercises (cuz it would take up a whole page) But I would recommend working out your:
      Chest-Monday
      biceps and triceps-Tuesday
      shoulders-wednesday
      back-thursday
      legs-friday

After 2 or three weeks, switch up your routine. Your muscles need 36 hours to repair themselves, so be sure not to over-train a specific area. Make sure you get adequate amounts of protein. Protein works best if taken from foods, but the powders are not bad. I use to eat about 4-6 egg whites, a bowl of oatmeal, and whole grain toast in the morning. for lunch I would have a couple cans of tuna, a couple boneless skinless chicken breast and maybe a salad. For dinner I would usually have something like a lean steak or spaghetti. I HAD to maintain at least 3400 calories to maintain my size.

Also, heavy weight with few reps builds muscle, while lighter weight with many reps tones muscle. For a more detailed workout plan, I would recommend checking out a website called bodybuilding.com. It has a lot of useful info.

  33. QUESTION:
Does anyone have any diet tips?
I am a 36 year old mother of three. I have been gaining to much weight. I want to lose weight to feel better about my self and also for my health. I need some tips for a diet that is not expensive. I am hoping someone can help.

    • ANSWER:
      Very easy.

First, structure your diet around lean meats, whole grains, vegetables, skim dairy, and fruit. Eating healthy requires lifestyle changes (not fad or diets you have to pay for). Just change the types of food you buy and cook with. No cost here.

Second, stop eating out. You'd be amazed at how horrible most of the restaurant dishes are (www.calorieking.com). Plus, you get the bonus from saving money by not eating out.

Third, try to get in 30 minutes of cardio a day (this can be anything from a walk during your lunch break to a walk in the evening...just get your heart pumping every day. Or, use the money you save from not eating out to join a gym.

Finally, count your calories. Weight loss comes down to one thing and one thing only: taking in fewer calories than your body burns. Find a BMR calculator online (or get your metabolism tested professionally) to figure out about how many calories your body needs and then aim for consuming about 500 calories/day less than this amount.

      Good luck.

    • ANSWER:
as long as u go to the gym, try to do 2-3 hours a week including both cardio and aerobic exercise.
eat every thing that doesn't look like its basically made of sugar ;)
eat three meals per day, "Breakfast like a king, Lunch like a prince & Dinner like a beggar"
eat your dinner at least 3 hours before sleeping
between each meal leave about 4-6 hours
you can have one or two snacks (small-tiny meals) between your main meals.
maintain a good 8 cups intake of water
drink more water before the meals than immediately after.
eat smaller servings, and get another refill if u really are hungry (second serving smaller than the first)
chew slowly and thoroughly.ur brain only realises ur full after 20 min of eating(so gve him some tym)
eat more fish, less chicken and even lesser meat
Stop drinking any kind of fizzy drinks (its not as hard as it sounds)
try eating food with more fibers
less manufactured food and more naturals
less deep fried, less saturated fat
less dressing (u dnt have to always go for totally on the side, but doesn't have to be dripping with it, just a tiny bit gives it the great flavor)
best fruit like apple (has fibers, chewing makes u feel full, low calories-- perfect as a snack)
grapes, mango, banana and dates i consider my worst enemies (so sugar but i just love them)
Nuts are very healthy as they contain omega-3 (just a handful as they can become ur fattening factor if u eat more)
yogurt is reali healthy and u can top it with some berries or any fruit (just perfect). also gud for ur digestion.
eat less of the pure carbohydrate food like rice pasta and bread
and opt for full grain wenever possible.

Finally and most important, don't let this become an obsession. For all those tips above are to help u become more healthy and lead a healthy life, not to get u super thin!

  39. QUESTION:
What are some natural remedies and diet tips for my cat's kidney disease?
My cat, 6 yrs old, could possibly have kidney failure (it might be a bladder infection but I won't find out for another 2 weeks after antibiotics); he's still energetic and doesn't show any signs of illness. Ironically I have kidney disease as well and am using natural remedies like dandelion root tea and other herbs. Wheatgrass has also improved my health a lot. I am wondering these herbs would apply to cats as well?

Does anyone have any suggestions for diet (should it be homemade)? I've been doing research and they all say low salt, but some sites say good high quality protein while others say low protein. And should I stop using the chemical Frontline (flea medicine) on my cat?

Also, where on my cat are his kidneys located?

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
First off...the kidneys are located just past the send of the rib cage on both sides...the right kidney is slightly closer to the front of the cat. Frontline Plus doesn't go into the animals system, so it will have no effects on the kidneys...so don't stop using it. I wouldn't reccomend any "natural remedies" without consulting your vet...cats and people can very different recations to plants...and a lot of plats can be nephrotoxic (toxic to the kidneys) in cats!

A diet wont help kidney failure until bloodwork confirms Azotemia...this means the that BUN and CREATINIE are elevated. So unless this has been confirmed by your vet, changing the diet wont help. However, if Azotemia is confirmed, then a low protein/low phospherous diet is highly recomended. The protein that is in the kidney diets is a high quality one. Several brands make kidney diets.... Purina NF, Royal Canin/IVD modified....Hill's K/D..... Royal Canin Renal LP..... However, they are by prescription only, so you have to get them from your vet. If you are interested in making your own diet, you can contact UC Davis, and for a small fee, they will formulate a diet you can cook at home specificaly for your cats needs....

I'm not sure why its going to take so long to confirm that your cat has kidney disease...a simple blood test should confirm if the kidney values are normal or not.

      Good Luck!

What are some of your favorite diet tips?
I'm headed for mexico in may and i'd like to lose some weight and tone up my body so i look good in that bikini!

What are some of your favorite tips that really helped? I'll take anything to good healthy snacks, exercises that worked, etc.!

    • ANSWER:
I have a ton. They're really good and all worked for me:
      (I recently lost 26 pounds)
-When you have a craving for junk food, like cake, take 1-3 bites and STOP, usually the craving goes away
-Do push-ups when watching TV on the commercials... it's the perfect time to do them because you're only working hard for about 2 minutes and then you get a break
      -Drink a lot of water
-Don't eat 2-3 hours before bed
-Eat slowly... Don't gorge but take time to really savor the food
-Make fruits/veggies finger food for when you're bored (instead of chips/pretzels)
-Run/swim for 20-30 min a day (they burn a lot of calories)
-DON'T deny yourself anything that you really want, just eat it in portions and extend your workout to balance it out
-Share your food when eating it (food at restaurants usually has 1000-2000 calories, sharing it is good for your health as well as your wallet)
-Always check if you're hungry before eating. There are times when you eat out of boredom or whatever.
I really hope these are as much help to you as they are to me.

  44. QUESTION:
Can anyone give me some good diet tips for gaining muscle mass?
What type of foods are good for building muscle?

Is milk any good? What about nuts?

Any good tips would be appreciated, if I do a google search it just comes up with loads of sites for protein shakes and creatine.

    • ANSWER:
The main thing for gaining muscle is to be on a caloric surplus, i.e. eat more than you spend in a day. Most trainers advise around 500 extra calories. You can work it out by multiplying your weight in lbs by between 18-20. Thats how much you should aim to eat: lots. So I'm about 180 lbs, so need to eat between 3240 and 3600 calories depending on my activity levels. However, you need to be careful that your'e not going over that limit, or else you'll put on too much fat.

By the way, it's normal to put on a little fat on your mass gaining cycle. If you're not on a cloric surplus, wou won't grow as there'll be no enery/food to make the muscles.

Then you of course need to eat the right type of food to maximise muscle-gain and minimise fat gains. Lots of protein, good fats (Omega 3's and 6's- e.g. in eggs, fish oils, etc), and complex carbs (ones that release energy slowly, e.g. vegges, wholemeal bread, etc, not like chocolates).

To get the 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight, I eat a lot of grilled chicken, tuna sandwiches, skimmed youghurts, etc. As you suggested milk is good protein as are eggs, but a lot of people like myself are lactose-intolerant, i.e. we can't drink too much or else we get tummy problems. But if you're ok with milk, one good and easy way to get lots of protein is to make your own shake. Get some skimmed milk, mix it with normal milk shake for flavour(e.g. ovaltine, or you can leave it out), then add some powdered skimmed milk powder ontop. By doing that you get loads of protein into one glass, and its real cheap.

However, you might want to buy the best protein form (if you can) which is whey. Proteins in milk are good, but they take a longer time to be released to your muscles. As for whey protein, it releases the quickest and so is ideal for post-workouts.

Main thing is to eat! I'm juust coming off a 5/6 week mass gain cycle, and have put on about 10 pounds (although sadly some of it is fat due to overeating). I'm planning to take the take the fat off next month or two, so will go on a calorie deficit (i.e. less calories than i put out).

I've tried explaining a lot in one answer, but its best to read up on the net! Hope I've helped!

      5. another great snack option is a cup of low-fat yogurt ........its great for permanent fat loss

Also picturize yourself slim and think about the reward after all this effort.....it will be worth it and remember weight loss is possible but self-discipline and consistency is the key. Good luck!!

  46. QUESTION:
What are some healthy eating habits and diet tips for me to lose weight and flatten my stomach?
I'm 5:7 and about 120 pounds but I just want to lose like 10 pounds. I was wondering. how to diet healthily. Also is it true that smaller more frequent meals are better than eating less. Also is it good to have like a big breakfast and let every meal get smaller? And how can I trim my waist and flatten my stomach?

What are some high protein foods? And foods high in carbs? Should I cut out carbs?

    • ANSWER:
What you need to do is mix weights with cardio. Do lots of reps with low weights to tone muscle. The key is to do both, weights AND cardio, this burns the most calories and leaves the best muscle tone. Lift for 30 minutes, then swim bike or run for another 30 mins - 1 hour. Diet wise, it is always advisable to eat a balanced diet. A good breakfast will get your metabolism started earlier, and start your day off with more energy, but not bigger than other meals. you need carbs for energy, and healthy high protein foods are things like chicken, fish, tofu, nuts, or drink a protein shake. but once again, it is best to have a balanced diet. it can be good to eat protein before bed after a hard workout day to rebuild muscle while you sleep. goodluck!!

In order to lose weight, you have to watch your meal servings. And it won't matter if you're at home or dining out. But you have to be most especially watchful when eating inside restaurants. You might order big chunks of meat because of the juicy ad you see in the menu. The rule of thumb is this: eat just enough to address your hunger. Never stuff yourself with food.

      2. Exercise is key.
Exercise causes the body to burn fats. And no diet works without the help of a good exercise regime. All weight loss tips appearing in health magazines and over the internet will tell you that regular exercise could help you a lot in reducing your body mass index. A handful of people can't be wrong. So don’t skip an exercise routine at the gym.

      3. Eat healthy.
Some people concentrate too much on getting thin that they fail to recognize the more important thing – they have to stay focused on eating healthy. If you do this, everything else follows. If you eat the right type of food, you should not worry about getting fat. Because more often than not, the person's bad choices when it comes to the food they eat is the reason why they are overweight. Fatty foods and sweets should be avoided as much as possible.

I'm 23 I have bad cellulite always have, even when I'm thin it seems like I've got bad cellulite. Is there anything I can do? Supplements, diet, exercises, How what when where!

    • ANSWER:

I am not overweight at all but alot of skinny women HAVE cellulite too. I have really BAD cellulite!

What worked for me is excercises for glutes and thighs that convert fat into muscle..

This is the excercise routine I follow and you can get free online ..Jillian Michaels 30 day shred..There are 3 levels..I personally did level one for 3 days and I felt some reduction in cellulite and a little bit of toning..you should do this everyday..its a mix of cardio and curcuit excercises..and I love how it works the thighs and butts!

IF you happen to not feel it right away..you will def feel it the next day..!! just take a bath with epsom salts or good foam bath ..and u will feel soo good

I have been doing this for 4 days and so far my butt is less flabby looking..I hope it works for u!!

  49. QUESTION:
any one got any good diet tips for looseing weight quickly?
when i say diet tips a mean what foods r realli gd to stick to and stuff am not looking to loose rapids really quickly ruffly 5lb a week till a loose a stone .. thnx for all answers n advice

    • ANSWER:
If you lose it quick, you'll put it back on quick! Try to change your eating habits as if you feel you're depriving yourself totally you won't be able to stick at it. And DON'T stop eating - your body thinks it's a famine and turns ALL food into fat stores. Try to cut out fatty and sugary snacks and supplement with fruit, vegetables or slow release foods that make you feel fuller for longer. You also need to exercise more, and if you feel like snacking have a drink of water. Lots of people confuse thirst for hunger - sounds daft but it's true! Unless you need to lose loads of weight, 5lbs in a week is not realistic - sorry!

  50. QUESTION:
What are some good diet tips for a 15 year old?

Idk why, so what are some foods i should eat & should stay away from when im on this diet? And what are some good excersizes i should do? Im deprerate to try anyhting. Pleaseeee help! :(

    • ANSWER:
Anything high in fibre, such as having Bran flakes for breakfast and pieces of fruit for snacks. Instead of fizzy drinks, replace with water. If you often get hungry before bed, have some hot milk slowly, and this will make you feel less hungry. Just make sensible choices, like not grating cheese on your spaghetti, or gravy on your dinner, and opt for tomatoey based foods, rather than some creamy and cheesy.
