Diet food delivery is the latest and fastest growing trend in the weight loss industry today. From Hollywood stars to power executives, everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon.
But is it right for you? Here are some quick facts about diet delivery to help you decide:
What Is It?
Diet delivery services prepare diet meals for you and ship them to your home either daily, weekly or monthly. Meals are prepared according to your preferences and then delivered to your door either fresh or frozen. It's like having your own personal dietitian and chef helping you lose weight.
What Kind of Meals Can You Choose From?
Different services offer you a variety of options. For example some services offers Zone meals, low carb, vegetarian, low fat, kosher or even diabetic friendly meals.
Some services ask you to fill out a profile and then tailor a specific menu to your personal goals, situation and lifestyle. Others allow you to choose meals from pre-set menu lists. Many meals are chef-prepared and have been created to be both delicious and low calorie.
How Does It Work?
Depending on the service you can get your meals delivered to your home once a month, once a week, or even daily. You can also have your meals shipped to your office.
You can choose to have breakfast, lunch and dinner delivered or just gourmet lunches and dinners. Many plans also let you include snacks.
Most diet food delivery services will let you choose your preferences online and then order. In a couple of business days you should receive your food for that week.
In general, meals come prepared with heating instructions on the packaging. In many cases you also get bonus gifts like free meals or weight loss instruction booklets and tools.
Will I Lose Weight?
Yes - if you follow your chosen program. Most services state that their clients lose from 2-5 pounds per week, depending on age, gender, level of activity, etc.
Recent studies show that people have more success losing weight with diet delivery than they do with traditional diets. This makes sense - when all of the work is done for you, it's easy to lose weight.
Plus with chef-prepared, gourmet meals you don't have that sense of deprivation that sabotages most dieting efforts. You also don't have the frustration of driving to the store, searching for the right food, going home and taking the time to prepare it yourself.
In most cases you just choose your meal from fridge, heat for 5-10 minutes and enjoy.
How Much Does It Cost?
These days, with larger services able to offer lower prices, you don't have to be a movie star to enjoy diet delivery. Plans start from under a day (which is what many people spend on food anyway). You can even get gourmet plans which cater to specific needs or allergies for about - a day.
Some plans offer discounts if you order monthly (vs. weekly) and some even offer free meals when you sign up.
Also, many delivery clients feel that the time they save every day by having their meals delivered more than pays for itself. Time is money after all!
Final Note:
Getting your diet meals prepared and sent to your door is possibly the easiest way to lose weight in a rushed, crazy-busy world.
If you've had problems losing weight in the past and you just don't have the time to spend preparing complicated recipes or shopping for diet food, diet delivery may be right for you. It's easy, affordable, delicious and it works.
One note of caution: do your homework before you decide on a diet food delivery service. There are several services out there - but they all offer unique options. By researching what's out there before you make a final dec 00004000 ision, you can save money, find the best plan for you and really enjoy losing weight.

QUESTION:
What is the best diet food for cats?
My cat is obese-he came in as a skinny feral cat a few years ago and gorged! After that, although he had around the same amount of food as my other (not fat) cats he continued to increase in size.
For the last year or so he has been on a weight reducing dry food as suggested by the vet. After an initial weight loss, he put the weight back on again even though he was still on the diet and just won't lose an ounce. He weighs over 8kg.-
ANSWER:
A couple of ideas... all assuming that your cat is now indoors only, with a special note at tip 7:1. Feed the reducing diet ("r/d") exclusively-- don't mix it with other types of cat foods. It's okay to feed dry and canned varieties, but remember that if you offer the kitty some canned food as a treat, you need to take away a similar amount (calorie-wise) from his dry food. Also, while it's okay to give an OCCASIONAL SMALL treat, the treats need to be just that-- occasional and small, and the calories need to be subtracted from his regular food ration.
2. Speaking of ration, it's best to feed only at specific meal times, rather than just filling the bowl and letting the cats graze all day long. Let's face it-- we humans would be huge if we had free access to the buffet 24/7 while living a life of leisure! Better idea: dish out a set amount of food, in two separate bowls, and give the cats a short period to eat... say, an hour. Then pick up the food and don't put it out again until the next feeding. You can feed an adult cat twice a day and they will be fine. You can also note how much you feed in a serving and whether the cat eats it all during that mealtime. If you feed a 1/2 cup at breakfast and there is some left over, reduce the next day's breakfast by the amount that's left. Note how much the cats eat in the meal period and offer just that much-- no more, no less. And don't allow begging or stealing from human plates! And tell everyone else in the home not to give in.
3. Watch to make sure that the bigger cat isn't bolting his food then going for seconds off the other cat's meal. Feed in separate rooms, if necessary. (Bonus: your cats' teeth will benefit, as well, from having a chance for the mouth to cleanse itself rather than being constantly exposed to food. How would YOUR teeth be if YOU ate all day long and NEVER brushed? ICK!!)
4. On the subject of food types, dry food is more calorie-dense than wet food. A 1/2 cup of dry food has more calories than the same 1/2 cup of canned food. Why? Canned food has a lot of water in it. In fact, most canned food is 75% water by volume! Put another way, dry food is roughly 4 times as calorie-dense per volume as the same canned food. While there is really nothing wrong with feeding dry food (IMO), it's important to remember how rich these dry foods really are. Think about this-- a wild cat eats fresh, moist prey. Not dry pellets. While the hunter cat might score a hefty feast, he gets a fair amount of calorie-free water to go with it. Plus, the hunter has had to work a while for his meal. That's why wild and even feral cats are often rather lean. You might try feeding one meal of dry food and the other as canned food... be sure it's the r/d (or whatever low-cal diet your vet prescribed) either way. If the cat won't eat canned, don't worry.
5. Break out the laser pointer, the ping-pong balls or the cat-fishing rod. Just as good, brisk exercise helps us to stay fit and trim, it will do the same for your cat. It might take some encouragement to get them up and moving, but once they get going... they'll have a blast! Another idea: if you have a shower stall with a shower door, close the door almost all the way-- leave it open just enough for your cats to go in and out-- and lob a few ping-pong balls in there. They'll make some cool noises as they bounce around, and many cats will enjoy a game of "cat racquetball". Plus, the game can last longer in the shower stall because the balls won't get lost under the sofa. It gets boring if your toys get lost! My Tonk loves bathtub handball!!
6. If the weight still won't come off, and you haven't been cheating on kitty's diet and exercise plan, it IS worth having bloodwork done. While it's much more common for cats to have an overactive thyroid (and weight LOSS), it is still possible for them to have an underactive thyroid and weight gain. In fact, we have several cats in our practice that have underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), and they take supplemental thyroid hormone. Cats can also have diabetes. Again, this is often associated with weight loss, but not always. There are other metabolic and endocrine problems that can cause weight gain.
7. VERY IMPORTANT!! Do NOT crash-diet your cat! Cat weight loss must be done GRADUALLY. Obese cats especially are at risk of serious liver problems if they lose weight too fast. What can happen when a cat stops eating or is on a super-strict diet is that the cat's body to begin to use fat stores as fuel. Cats are inefficient users of fat (their livers are not good at transforming fat into energy). Because the cat doesn't utilize the fat well, it begins to accumulate in the liver cells, eventually interfering with their ability to function. The medical name for this is HEPATIC LIPIDOSIS, or just "fatty liver disease". Cats that have this condition will die, in most instances, without appropriate treatment. Treatment for fatty liver disease is long and slow, requiring hospitalization at first and lots of home care-- force feeding or often a feeding tube. It's no fun for anyone. So, slow and easy is the name of the game in cat weight loss.
8. Remember that cats are individuals. Some cats have a higher caloric need than others (a faster metabolism). Your big cat may not need as many calories to maintain weight than your smaller cat. Plain and simple-- he may not need to eat as much as the smaller one to keep his weight. Also remember that your big cat went from an active, feral lifestyle where he was expending lots of calories to a life of leisure with less energy expenditure. His caloric needs changed when his lifestyle changed.
Hope this helps-- if you need more ideas, or if you have other concerns about his health, please call your vet.

QUESTION:
What is a good diet food for Chihuahuas ?
My 6month old Chi was spayed yesterday. However, the vet tells me that "from now on, you have to watch her diet very carefully". She loves "Cesar puppy" food (wet food). She has one in the morning, and one in the evening. No snacks during the day. The vet said: "See what she likes".
By the way, she never liked dry foods. I've tried very hard with those. I kept returning the bags of dry food to the pet store ! Should I just give her "half of her Cesar food"?-
ANSWER:
I wouldn't give her any less unless she really starts to put on weight. Pretty soon (if not right now) I'd switch to adult food which has less fat. If she ever starts getting heavy, I wouldn't cut her food down by any more than 25%. One type of dry food you might try is Royal Canin. They make a dry food specifically for little guys, and though it's expensive, you don't need to feed as much and maybe your pup would like it. If you go to certain pet food stores, not Petco or Petsmart though, I don't think they have samples, you might be able to get samples to try so you don't have to bring back bigger bags. http://www.royalcanin.us/dogs/Why_Diets_By_Size.aspx

The pieces are smaller too, so they're easier for her to eat!

QUESTION:
What is the most favorite tastiest kidney diet cat food that cats will eat and where can I buy it immediately?
My cat refuses to eat the canned kidney diet food that
the vet sells and I am looking for alternatives-
ANSWER:
Is it k/d? Cause I know A LOT of cats that refuse to eat k/d. There are definitely a few renal diets out there (Purina makes one, Eukanuba makes one - check out felinecrf.com for tons of info) but I recommend Royal Canin Modified Formula. Until about two weeks ago I could have honestly said that I never knew a cat that turned it down, but of course there had to be that one who would make me not be able to ever say that again. But not much can be said for her taste as she chose to eat the k/d over this magical food. Seriously, that's what we call it at my practice, "Magical Modified" because (almost) every cat will eat it. It has mackerel in it which I think the cats can really taste and LOVE. Plus, you can always add a little chicken broth to any canned food to increase water intake and make the food a little tastier for our finicky friends.
I prefer most Royal Canin therapeutic diets over the Hill's RX diets anyway. I think they are much more palatable and have higher quality ingredients with less by-products and preservatives. I actually have my cats on the Calorie Control diet.
OK, I'll stop going on about the RC therapeutic foods, but seriously, try it! You don't need a prescription for it like you do for the Hill's foods but you do have to buy it from a veterinarian. If your vet doesn't carry it, call around to other vets in the area or call Royal Canin and ask them where the closet place is where you can buy their products. (800) 592-6687. If there is a bigger emergency hospital in your area they should carry it. I don't know where you live so I can't really help you out with that part, but good luck and I hope she likes it!
http://www.royalcanin.us/products/productdetail.aspx?ID=104Oh, there is also another Royal Canin renal diet called LP but I don't think that goes over any better than the k/d chicken as far as flavor. But it does come in pouches so it's more of the chunks and gravy deal than the regular mushy food so if your cat is into that sort of thing, they may prefer LP & you might want to try that.

QUESTION:
What is the best diet cat food?
I'm going to adopt a cat who is REALLY fat, and I'm looking for a very effective diet food to feed her.
She loves to lay at peoples feet, especially mine ><It'd make playing with her a lot easier.
-
ANSWER:
Quality foods don't have the word "diet" on the bag because they don't have anything in them that will make a cat fat. Don't buy "diet" foods.Feed this cat a food with MEAT as the main ingredient and little to no grain. Some excellent brands include Innova Evo, Petcurean Go! Natural, Blue Buffalo Wilderness. All three of these are 50% meat protein and ZERO grain. Also give the cat quality canned food made with chicken, turkey or duck daily. In fact, you may want to feed JUST canned at first.
Until chubby cat's down to a healthy weight don't free freed him - just put a very small handful of dry food out twice a day and split one of the tiny cans of food into two or three servings. Then once he's slimmed up a bit you can leave the healthy dry food out. Even if he grazes during the day on it it won't pack on the pounds like the cheap dry foods that are made mostly of corn. My Persian's been eating these foods for the past three years and his weight is always the same - 10.9 pounds. And he nibbles a bit all day long.
Get toys that you can wave and he can chase. NOT a laser pointer - those are VERY frustrating for cats as its prey they can never catch. Get "lure" toys with a pole, string and toy on the end. Tinsel/feather wands are great, too. Not only will playing with him daily give him much-needed exercise but it'll bond him to you.
Do have a vet check him out as soon as you get him. Obesity can lead to a myriad of health issues including diabetes, arthritis, heart problems, kidney problems, etc.

QUESTION:
Does anyone know who delivers healthy diet food to obese children in san francisco?
I need to find a delivery service for my 7 year son (healthy diet food) I am a single mom and have little or no time to cook for him.-
ANSWER:
I'm not in San Francisco and can't answer your question directly, but can give you a few ideas if no one responds:1) Get a quick consult with a local nutritionist to see if they can recommend a service.
2) Check with your child's school to see if they are aware of any services.
3) Interview a few local personal chef's (sometimes they offer services where they come to your home, with a bag of groceries, and cook up a week's worth of food in your kitchen, using your pots and pans--typically they'll wash all of the dishes that they used. They also individually wrap all of the food and put it in the appropriate storage: fridge, freezer, etc., for the week.) They could probably custom make a week's menu for both you and your son based on your requirements.
Oh, and don't forget to sign him up for a sporting activity or sports day camp--sports are super for kids!
Good luck

Switching from Science Diet to By Nature Organic dog food, how do I get my dogs to eat it when they won't?
They just sniff it and won't eat it. I tried mixing it in with the remaining science diet food and they just spit out the new food. Will they eventually start eating it?-
ANSWER:
Try mixing a little big of cooked ground chicken/beef and rice in it. (Just a little) I usually do this when my Peke is stubborn and won't eat his food. Here is how to switch foods:
"A new pet food should be gradually introduced to your animal by mixing it with their current food. For a nice, slow transition, replace the old food with the new in 10 perecent increments over the course of a 10-day period. It can take 4 to 6 weeks for a pet's digestive tract to adjust to a new diet. If digestive upset occurs, pull back and transition more slowly."Hope that helped! & Good job for switching to a better quality food!

QUESTION:
Has your cat lost a good amount of wieght on diet food?
I have had my cat on diet food for about 8 months now and he keeps gradually loosing wieght. I'm starting to think he's loosing to much. He was kinda fat and now he's maybe average or below average. Do you think the food is main reason or maybe he has tape worms? Does heartworms make cats loose wieght? He never goes outside either, he is strictly an indoor cat. I can't get an appointment until Friday. I'm a little worried.-
ANSWER:
Cats are infected with heartworms by the bite of an infected mosquitoe. Mosquitoes live in swampy areas where the water is still. Do you live near a place like that?As for the tapeworms, they come from fleas. Kitty grooms himself and ingests a flea. The tapeworm cycle begins. Fleas are everywhere..dry areas and wet areas. Even if kitty doesn't go outside, you or your family can bring fleas in yourself, they can come through open doors and windows.
Does kitty eat well, just continuing to lose weight? Loosing weight is a sign for many illness. The vet will draw blood and maybe urine for analysis and check his thyroid, kidneys, liver, blood sugar levels and CBC.
If the vet is concerned about the heartworms, he can use a few drops to examine under a microscope for microfilaria (heartworm larvae). And also perform inhouse antibody test. Outward signs of heartworm can be similar to other illnesses, but coughing and rapid/difficulty breathing are two signs that make the vet consider heart problems.
I have attached a link with good information on heartworms in cats, plus a map of the US showing high concentration areas.
Also, what kind of 'diet food' do you have kitty on? Many of the diet foods are dry and generally dry food does not have the best nutrition for kitties. Cats are carnivores and need meat. The diet formulas are full of corn and grains, but no meat. I will attach another link to cat nutrition written by a veterianarian and cat lover.
The third link is to a cat body condition weight chart. You can compare your kitty to this chart to see if he is at his ideal or underweight.
Purrs to you and kitty.

QUESTION:
What should I be eating of as a good diet food?
I started working out 45min a day 5 times a week, and at first I would just starve myself, I would eat like an apple and some juice, for the day. I lost weight, but once the weekend hit I totally caved, and I was like oh well I can just diet again once the week starts, but I would really like to know what food and how much of it I should eat. Thank you so much!(If this is of any help my height is 5'9'' and my weight is 160, I would like to weigh 130)
-
ANSWER:
Your type of dieting forces your body into a starvation mode where it will hibernate to keep from losing body fat. It's also very unhealthy and encourages you to go on binges just to keep your metabolism going. You're doing great going to the gym, let's tackle your eating habits.
My daughter lost 75 lbs doing the following. Does not involve counting calories.
BREAKFAST, never skip! Get some protein in your tummy so you will not feel hungry!
Have 1 serving whole grain cereal with sweetener and low fat milk for breakfast.
Or, a piece of whole grain toast with peanut butter.
Or, a boiled egg and a piece of whole grain toast,
Or, an egg white omelet and a piece of whole grain toast.A piece of fruit is fine but cut out the juice. Juice is wasted calories without the fiber that fills you up.
For a change, make French toast with whole grain bread dipped in Eggbeaters (mix a little water or milk with the eggbeaters). Brown in a pan coated with PAM. Serve with a small amount low fat margerine or whipped butter and sugar free maple sirup. Have a glass of cold skim or low fat milk.
With these easy breakfasts, you are depending on low calories, lots of fiber to keep you full, and the protein in the milk, peanut butter, and/or eggs to keep you from getting hungry.
Don't skip breakfast. If necessary, boil some eggs the night before so they will be ready for you the next morning.
MID-MORNING SNACK A small apple or orange
FOR LUNCH
A sandwich using whole grain bread, fat free mayo, a VERY thin layer of meat and/or low fat cheese, and LOTS of crunchy lettuce (she used romaine) to make it a thick sandwich.
Add some carrot sticks for crunch and you will never miss the chips!!!
Or, some soup like Campbell's veggie soup, and some whole grain crackers with a very small amount of fat free cheese or peanut butter.
Treat yourself to one (1) Hershey kiss!
[Pack your lunch the night before right after dinner when you are not hunger. And, do not yield to temptation to add an additional kiss to your lunch or to eat one while you fix the lunch.]SNACK- a graham cracker (plain) or a handful of mini low fat Wheat Thins or Triscuits.
DINNER
Use a desert or bread plate (not a saucer) instead of a plate for dinner.
Draw an imaginary line across half the plate. For lunch and dinner, half of the plate should be filled with non-starch veggies like green beans, squash, broccoli, eggplant, etc. Don't smother them in butter or rich sauces but do use spices, a spray of PAM, or a vineagrette. For absolutely yummy veggies, spray a cookie sheet with PAM (I like the olive oil flavor). Slice yellow squash, zucchini, eggplant... put on cookie sheet. Add broccoli and/or cauliflower florets and even some asparagus. Spray top with PAM. Bake in a hot oven until the veggies start to brown on the edges and are tender. They are great, especially if you let them get soft and succulent. YUMMY!.
For the other half of the plate, divide it evenly into another 2 sections.
One section should be lean protein (meats, fish, beans, etc.). Make the food interesting with spices, marinades, and/or fat marinades, or for fish... lemon juice.
The other section of the plate should be starchy foods like potatoes, rice, bread, pasta, etc. Keep those interesting but low calorie by using PAM spray, spices, fat free cottage cheese/cream cheese/ or sour cream.
If you have bread, cut out the other starch. And remember, certain vegetables are more starchy than others. Count carrots as a starch.
This is the healthy way to lose weight. It is a balanced diet with enough protein and veggies to provide essential vitamins and minerals to keep your skin and hair looking good while you lose weight.
Splurges????? Absolutely.. treat yourself. If you can do without the starch part of your meal for Thursday and Friday, treat yourself to a SMALL portion of something yummy over the weekend. Learn to do substitutions. There are some excellent low fat, low sugar ice creams, just watch portions. But, look out for fat free items. The only way to keep processed baked goods moist is to add either fat or sugar. If they cut out fat, they add an equal amount of calories (or more) in sugar, so read the labels. If an ingredient ends in 'ose,' it is a form of sugar, period.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
Side effects of hills prescription diet food for dogs?
Are there any known side effects with hills prescription diet dog food.
My spaniel has been put on this from our vet, since this she has come out in what looks like septic spots.
Any advice?-
ANSWER:
I am with Bobby, it's possible that your dog has an allergy to one of the ingredients in the new diet. This type of situation isn't because the food is "bad for dogs" but rather that an individual's body has an abnormal reaction to something. You should discuss the issue with your vet.

QUESTION:
Is it safe to feed a HEALTHY cat Special Renal Diet food?
One of my kitties has renal failure and has been put on Hills Prescription k/d Diet kitty food...
The other cat, who is 100% healthy and fat and is in no way kidney-impared, is BANANAS for this stuff....
so he eats Kidney Kitty's food and SHE wants to eat what's in HIS bowl so...
Is there any harm in letting the healthier one in on the renal diet?-
ANSWER:
The renal diet probably won't provide enough protein for your healthy cat. Read the label on the k/d food to see what it contains. A lot of times k/d foods will contain liver. If it's just a particular ingredient that your healthy cat really likes, you could try buying a regular food that contains that ingredient. Also, is your healthy cat eating a good quality food to begin with? If it's an inexpensive brand, your cat could be craving the new food b/c it might have other nutrients, etc. that he's been lacking.
If you can't find anything else your health cat likes as much and you really want to just give him/her the renal food, at least call your vet first to make sure.

QUESTION:
what is the best combination of balanced diet food you can have/prepare or buy after a tooth extraction?
I have got two wisdom teeth taken out on the right side. but i can eat on the left side. i am just having just water, smoothie and tomato soup...but i feel its not enough...I'd like to know if there a good combination of balanced diet food to have ,would be nice if u have experienced them personally though. Thank you for your detailed answers
-
ANSWER:
It won't be long before you can eat normally so don't worry about a balanced diet - it won't matter for a day or two. How about mashing a banana with a fork in a bowl? This is very easy to eat and nourishing. You could add some milk, cream, yogurt, honey etc, whatever you fancy. Soft cheese is easy to eat, and so is peanut butter - eat it off a spoon. And there are lots of other soups besides tomato - choose some with meat and veg if you're concerned. Grilled fish is also easy to eat, & you can adda bit of nice sauce to help it along. How about tinned rice pudding? Hate it myself but lots of people love it. Scrambled egg is full of protein and dead easy to eat without much chomping. Get some fresh apricots or plums. take the stones out and squash them into a puree - delicious. Good luck and hope you soon feel better.Real food is always better for you than prepared diet stuff, whose main purpose is to make money for the manufacturer. Hop your mouth soon feels better.

QUESTION:
What are the benefits of a raw food diet with acid alkaline foods?
I've seen a lot about the raw food diet, but other than avoiding overly processed foods, I'm not sure why it's so beneficial? It also seems like a lot of effort for people, and it looks like it's difficult to create meals that are satisfying and leave one feeling full. In essence, why go raw?-
ANSWER:
The raw food diet is an excellent idea for those looking to improve their health through good eating. At first it sounds extremely restrictive, but once you go raw you tend not to go back! The basic premise of raw food is that you are getting food at its freshest and purest form. These foods definitely aren't processed.Getting raw foods, mainly fruits and veggies, into your body is extremely beneficial because they contain many nutrients that normally break down during the cooking process. Antioxidants, enzymes, proteins and even some vitamins can all be destroyed when heating food.
Another benefit of going raw is the chance to learn the difference between acid alkaline foods. Everything is either an acid or a base on the pH scale, including us! In fact, our bodies work very hard to maintain a specific blood pH level of around 7 or so. This is just perfect for carrying the right amount of oxygen in our blood cells. We can help our bodies maintain this balance by eating a good mix of acid alkaline foods, many of which are present in the raw food diet!

QUESTION:
How do you start a raw food diet?
My husband and I are both obese and need to lose 80-100 pounds each. A friend recommended a raw food diet, where you eat as much as you want without having to cook. Does anyone know where I can get info on how to begin, any supplements/vitamins that would be necessary (or how to get everything our bodies need from this type of eating), without me having to order a book?-
ANSWER:
First of all DO NOT try to just switch to raw food! Please, you could hurt yourselves. i was a natural food coach for many years - there is such a thing as a TRANSITIONAL diet- you know from whatever you eating now - ease you body into the raw diet. if you are really want to do this then do it safely - i just checked online - i studied with a lovely woman named "ANN WIGMORE", before i answered your question i went online-she's still in business! GREAT for you guys- go a head and put her name in your search bar and go! TONS of info. if you're serious her program IS the best i have ever come across. and yes i was a raw food freak for about 5 yrs or more-i had asthma- i have it NO MORE-that was about 25 years ago- i'm still asthma free. when i started to have children my husband and i thought it would be best to ease back into a cooked veggie diet( we've been veggies for over 30 yrs & yes raised a family as veggies too. boys are over 6' and daughter is beautiful and almost 6' tall). the lady ANN WIGMORE is a wonderful person i'm very fortunate to have had her association. and would recommend her program to anyone trying to become a raw food type-be it for permanent or temporary she would be the best - Good luck hope this helps

QUESTION:
can i feed my overweight cat chicken and turkey in addition to her diet food?
my cat is overweight. a lot. i have a prescription can food for her. since cats do better with protien based diets, i ws wondering if i could give her cooked chicken and/or turkey once in awhile in place of her canned food.-
ANSWER:
You should be able to do that and I'm sure your cat will love you for it. Not sure why we're supposed to question ourselves when we want to feed our cats raw when that's what they NATURALLY do if given a choice. The pet food makers have NOT outsmarted Mother Nature.

QUESTION:
What can you eat on a raw food diet?
Someone else mentioned raw food in relation to another question earlier and I just wondered what people on a diet like that eat? Obviously raw food, but what sorts of meals do they have? Is it filling? I think I'd struggle on a diet when I didn't cook anything.
I'm not personally going to start this diet but I was just interested in what was eaten. It's not really for me but just curious what people eat. Thanks for the info and links.-
ANSWER:
Hello, I have "teetered" with raw vegan food for about 3 years now and here's what I know so far. Raw foods will include:- Raw fruits and veggies that are in season and/or organic.
- Nuts and legumes. Both will need to be soaked overnight for easier digestion.
- Plenty of leafy greens. You can juice these (i know, yuck! but greens are so good for you!!!) and incorporate these in salads.
- You can make milk using raw nuts such as almonds and sesame seeds by soaking these overnight and blending them.
- Some raw foodists will eat mono meals. Meaning for the entire day, one will eat all meals of bananas, or greens..etc..Sometimes, its easy to eat like this, like just pick up a piece of fruit and eat. No more wondering if your food has preservatives and additives. Most times its hard. I guess it depends on what are your intentions for wanting to make raw foods your lifestyle? Also many struggle with this if they live in an area or state where there's not much great produce. Also, what about the cold weather??? We all want hot foods and warm drinks..
If you are very curious, I would suggest you look up a few authors on raw foods such as Alissa Cohen, Jeremy Saffron, Shazzie and Roe Gallo just to name a few. Most of their websites will tell of the good and bad of eating raw foods. Enjoy!

QUESTION:
On a raw food diet can you eat as much as you want?
According to David Wolfe, a raw food specialist, you cannot over eat on a raw food diet. His claim is that because of the form as well as types of food you will eat, naturally you will regulate yourself. In my experience I find this to be true. In fact I feel satiated more than I ever did as an omnivore, vegetarian & or vegan.
Bill, in this instance, no.
Cecil J. Tal..., I think you do not understand what a raw food diet is. Sarcasm is often a defense mechanism used by people to ridicule what they do not understand.
iltmaemc, the question implies without harmful consequence.
Stephanie S, right on, I agree.
Tall-angel, and that I will, but in a manner that best for myself, and the world.
schenzy, thank you for your support and the links you have provided. Blessings : )
AndyB, I challenge you to try it and see. When I eat raw I truly feel so full I eat suprising less than when I eat a non raw food diet.
beth inside, raw does not mean not heated, just not above 119 degree.-
ANSWER:
I agree. One of the points of the raw food diet is that cooked food is actually toxic to the body, so the body builds up a thick layer mucus in the intestinal tract to protect itself. This layer only allows a tiny fraction of foot nutrients through. When you go on a raw food diet, this layer eventually disappears and the body can absorb as much as 30 % of food as pure nutrients, so the body needs a TINY FRACTION of the food it once did. And thusly, raw food people are much more aware of how full they are and over eating is not even an issue anymore. Good luck on your journey. Here are some links I will recommend.

QUESTION:
How to feed my cat on a wet food diet?
Well, my cat on a dry food diet and i want to start feeding him wet food.
The problem is i can't just leave the wet food out all day, like i do with the dry food.
I need to put my cat on schedule diet but when i working i be gone for 8 hours of the day.
When i work, dry food is convenient but not healthy and wet food is healthy but not convenient for me.
So any thoughts?-
ANSWER:
I find that wet food is better for a cat's coat and skin, and the good or organic brands have less or no fillers or by-products as most dry food has. My cat eats twice a day, 1 5.5 oz can and a sprinkle of dry as snacks. She is 15 years old, 11 lbs and healthy.
You CAN leave wet food out, 1/2 can in the morning, 1/2 at night. The cat will either eat it all per feeding or like my cat, nibbles at it throughout the day and night.

QUESTION:
How much should I feed my dogs on a raw food diet?
Hello, I have already decided to feed my dogs a raw food diet. I have done research on exactly what types of protein and vegetables are good for them, and what they cannot have. I can't find anywhere how much food exactly I should give them... I mean in ounces or pounds, and how many times a day I should feed them this. Their meals will mainly consist of chicken, lamb, potatoes, carrots, and rice. They are two female adult Golden Retrievers, one a little small for her breed. Any suggestions? Thanks-
ANSWER:
Most dogs will eat about 1.5-3% of their body weight per day. My dogs are between 70 and 80 pounds and get between 1.5 and 2 pounds a day. It still varies based on dog since one of my dogs is skinny and needs a little over 2 pounds per day and one gets chubby on more than 1.5 while the third dog gets somewhere in between. They get this once per day and it is NOT measured out perfectly every day -- some days they might get a bigger meal that is 3 pounds and the next day a smaller chunk of something that is only 1 pound. The important thing is balance over time, just like I don't measure out everything I eat every day.You can save the veggies for treats... they aren't necessary in a raw diet (or any other) as dogs aren't built to digest them in a useful manner. I'd also recommend some more variance in the meat sources and you really need to include some bone and organ in order to provide sufficient nutrition -- there's no calcium source in the foods you listed, for example.
Congratulations on making the switch -- we switched last year and I've never looked back. It's scary at first but boy is it worth it once you get through those first humps.

QUESTION:
What are the negative aspects of a raw food diet?
I've read so much about the positive aspects of eating a raw food diet I was wondering were there any proven negative drawbacks? Has anyone had any experience with a raw food diet and didn't like what the results?-
ANSWER:
When we say raw food diet it was based on unprocessed and uncooked plant foods, such as vegetables, seeds, grains, nuts, dried fruits, seaweeds, beans and so much more.Enzymes that assist in our digestion and absorption of food, will be destroyed if a certain food will be heated above 116 degrees F. In a nutshell, cooking will diminish all the nutritional value of food.
That is why; I don't think the diet using raw foods have a negative effect to our body. If you want to take a diet, you should eat raw foods, because at least 75% of diet should must be living on raw.

QUESTION:
What do you think is harder to follow a financial diet or a food diet?
I am trying to develop a good spending plan. I feel like I am on a food diet. Like you try hard to eat right and exercise but still have a hard time staying on track. Money is the same way. Anyone think this is similar.-
ANSWER:
Hahahahaaaa... I like this question. But personally, I have never and still can't try that 'financial diet' that u are talking about there because I have never ever had monies to spear. I am very skinny financially.
But, both can be hard and both can be easy. It depends on your will power. Will yourself to do it and you will.
Take a piece of paper and a pen and write down randomly the benefits (pros) of the financial diet then the cons as well.
When u r done, write them out in order of priority.
Review it every now n then if anything else comes to your mind. And keep this close to your heart.
Then every time you deny yourself something (from spending money), write down the date, the item and the amount. Every week, month, etc, total the amount and see how much you have saved so far in your financial diet (it's like jumping on a scale to see how much weight you have lost so far in a food diet). And look at the item to see if you had really need it then. Chances are, you might be happy you never bought it.
But remember, times are getting harder and harder these days. The world is in a financial mess. Treasure your money. Spend wisely, for tomorrow you will be happier for it much more than you are today.

QUESTION:
Where can I find a healthy food diet to last me several weeks?
I'm a 17 year old who is pretty active, I'm starting a new workout plan and I would really like to just cut the junk food out of my diet. I'd like to find a meal plan that tells you what exactly to eat each day if such a thing exists.
I know most of that. I have swim practice every day so I wouldn't starve myself, and I'm not necessarily trying to lose weight, I don't need to.-
ANSWER:
NOThe MOST important thing is to eat naturally..without medicines, chemicals, "starving" your self etc.
first, it would be best for you to eat as healthy as possible..this will also help you considerably to lose weight gradually and naturally..
eat fresh fruits, vegetables, drink plenty of WATER..avoid all cokes, caffeines, smoking, alchohol etc. as these also add weight as well as they contain chemicals which disturb your natural bio rythmns as well as brain chemistry. try not to eat too much meat, and the meat you should eat should be "lean meat" such as steamed chicken and rice, or steamed fish with rice..and vegetables,, this should be your staple diet rice and vegetables with fruits..AVOID "JUNK FOOD" and "Fast Food" as this type of food is very unhealthy, lacking in vitamins really and has plenty of fattening molecules which make one gain weight and is not good .
if you snack,, try fruits with yogurt or fruit yogurt and nuts.. nuts are very healthy for your body .and contain proteins.
go for walks every evening or morning or whenever you get time each day for 1 hour or 2 hours..make this somewhere you enjoy walking even if you have to drive a bit to there..and make this a daily routine..you will enjoy it once you get into it ..and it makes you feel great after..just walking for 1 hour or 2 hours.
if you do this..every day for one month ..you should lose around 10 pounds (.714 stone) per month until you get to your natural healthy weight.. look up on the internet for an idea of what your weight for your height should be ..and when you get to this weight,,your body will look very nice and you will feel very good.
10 pounds (.714 stone ) each month in 3 months you should lose 30 pounds (2 stones, 2 pounds)..for sure...but no junk food and dont drink alcohol or smoke, dont eat junk..just healthy food with vitamins and walking 1 hour or 2 hours every day..and drink plenty of water..this is guaranteed way to lose weight naturally and for good, if you stick to this, which you should,,as it makes you feel so much more positive due to the vitamins and lack of chemicals making you feel depressed...
btw, forgot to mention,,just in case you dont know how to really make healthy meals..buy a "food steamer" at your local deparment store..they are very cheap and work very well..as well as buy a "rice cooker" which is also very cheap..eating rice is a great way to get your necessary carbs "healthy carbs" to lose weight and has lots of natural energy inside. you can buy asian rice at most large supermarkets or if you have a local oriental market..they sale quality asian rice.. thai or indian rice is good "jasmine rice".. buy corn or canola oil to sprinkle on vegetables or rice before steaming to add to taste as well as you can buy several nice spices like "cumin" or "Curry powders", etc.just sprinkle on the vegetables before steaming to give nice taste.
drink "Green Tea" as this is very healthy and helps burn extra fat faster...you can buy quality green tea at most oriental shops or large supermarkets as well

QUESTION:
Is a raw food diet good for a dog with struvite crystals?
My pug is prone to struvite crystals and I am curious about the benefits of a raw food diet for his condition. Does anyone have any information? I just want him to be healthy!-
ANSWER:
A dog that develops struvite crystals should be on a food with a reasonable protein level (arounbd 18-25%) that promotes a healthy urine pH. I use California Natural for my own dogs (one also used to develop crystals). There are prescription diets available, as well, though they cost more, and often, there are healthier choices available. If the crystals continue to recur, a prescription diet may be the best choice. They haven't been back in my dog since I switched food.

QUESTION:
How can I get my ferrets to eat raw food after living a whole year on a Marshall's ferret food diet?
My ferrets have lived a year of their life on a Marshall's ferret food diet, which I know is the worst thing a ferret can have (from all the poisonous chemicals in it). I really need to switch their diet to a raw food diet, or even a cooked meat diet, but they just won't even sniff the meat I give to them. They're stuck on their junk food and won't let go of it. Can someone please help me!?-
ANSWER:
I actually heard the opposite thing about Marshall ferret food. I read that it had no preservatives and definatly no poisonous chemicals. It does however lack some vitamins so I add them in seperatly. Maybe you could put small pieces of meat in their normal food. If they eat the pieces put a little more meat, then a little more, and a little more until they get used to it.Just remember to remove the meat quickly after meal times or it will spoil and give them some vitamins too so they have a complete diet.

QUESTION:
When doing the raw food diet is working out necessary?
I am starting a raw food diet and while I know that exercise is always good to add on I have NO time to do it in my day! Its really horrible. My question is, while the calories I am taking in are from healthy superfoods, veggies etc, the amount is huge right? So my question is if I don't exercise while on a raw food diet will I still lose weight?-
ANSWER:
If you have enough time to browse Yahoo! Answers, then you have enough time to exercise. I'm sick and tired of people complaining that they have no time. At one point in my life, I was exercising 17 times a week. I ate 6 large meals a day, all of them homemade. I was also a full-time college student working 30-60 hours per week! I made time because it was important to me.So, if you like the idea of being weak as a kitten and flabby as hell, then try to lose weight with diet alone.
