Having been diagnosed as diabetic, you feel that it's the end of the road for your taste buds; bland food would be the norm from now on. If you really think so, then you are truly mistaken, for a proper diabetic diet plan would ensure that you also get to satisfy your tasty food cravings.
A diabetic diet plan for the start has to be well balanced. That effectively means that you can have most things but in a very regulated manner. Obviously, the emphasis would be more on fibrous diet and less on a diet that's rich in carbohydrates and fats.

QUESTION:
How do you create a diabetic diet plan?
I am showing signs of being a diabetic. Since most of my family members are diagnosed to be diabetics, I want to be vigilant and create a diabetic diet plan for myself so that it won’t get worse.-
ANSWER:
A low carb diet is in order. Mendosa's Low Glycemic Index Diet is the best you can get . In one week you will know what to eat and what not and how much. http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htmThis table includes the glycemic index and glycemic load of more than 2,480 individual food items. Not all of them, however, are available in the United States. They represent a true international effort of testing around the world.
The glycemic index (GI) is a numerical system of measuring how much of a rise in circulating blood sugar a carbohydrate triggers–the higher the number, the greater the blood sugar response. So a low GI food will cause a small rise, while a high GI food will trigger a dramatic spike. A list of carbohydrates with their glycemic values is shown below. A GI is 70 or more is high, a GI of 56 to 69 inclusive is medium, and a GI of 55 or less is low.
The glycemic load (GL) is a relatively new way to assess the impact of carbohydrate consumption that takes the glycemic index into account, but gives a fuller picture than does glycemic index alone. A GI value tells you only how rapidly a particular carbohydrate turns into sugar. It doesn't tell you how much of that carbohydrate is in a serving of a particular food. You need to know both things to understand a food's effect on blood sugar. That is where glycemic load comes in. The carbohydrate in watermelon, for example, has a high GI. But there isn't a lot of it, so watermelon's glycemic load is relatively low. A GL of 20 or more is high, a GL of 11 to 19 inclusive is medium, and a GL of 10 or less is low.
Foods that have a low GL almost always have a low GI. Foods with an intermediate or high GL range from very low to very high GI.
Both GI and GL are listed here. The GI is of foods based on the glucose index–where glucose is set to equal 100. The other is the glycemic load, which is the glycemic index divided by 100 multiplied by its available carbohydrate content (i.e. carbohydrates minus fiber) in grams. (The "Serve size (g)" column is the serving size in grams for calculating the glycemic load; for simplicity of presentation I have left out an intermediate column that shows the available carbohydrates in the stated serving sizes.) Take, watermelon as an example of calculating glycemic load. Its glycemic index is pretty high, about 72. According to the calculations by the people at the University of Sydney's Human Nutrition Unit, in a serving of 120 grams it has 6 grams of available carbohydrate per serving, so its glycemic load is pretty low, 72/100*6=4.32, rounded to 4.
You can forget the metformin for now.
There are 4 key steps to controlling glucose levels.
Here are the 4 keys:
1) Knowledge- http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/index.ph… This is a great site for info
2) Meds. Metformin to start. Never , ever take Actos or Avandia. They may kill you. Bone fractures, heart problems and what diabetics really don't need is that they change Bone Stem Cells to Fat Cells.
3)diet- A low carb diet is in order. I can't count carbs so I use Mendosa's Glycemic Index Diet. Great for the whole family. http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm
4) EXERCISE- Walking is fine but Nordic Walking is Great. Exercise also lowers Glucose levels , lowers Cholesterol and lowers Blood Pressure. Google it.
Exercise is very important.Take care

I'm not diabetic but it seems that following a diabetic diet plan to lose weight might be sensible, as my downfalls are mainly sweets and carbs.

I figure cutting sugars and carbs to a bare minimal could be a good thing, but I'm not sure.

QUESTION:
Does anyone know where I can find a diabetic diet plan like the doctor gives patients?
I know a lady who had to go on a diabetic diet for health reasons. I was wondering if there was anywhere that I could find a meal plan for a 1800 calorie or 1600 calorie diet, that lists foods for each meal and snacks etc etc. I know for a dieabetic diet just cut out sugar, but the meal plans actually break it down. Please help.-
ANSWER:
I know what you're saying, but it is a little complicated because meal plans ideally are created by a nutritionist/diabetes educator specifically for you. It also takes a little education; it's not simply "eat a sandwich for lunch." I'll list what my meal plan looks like. I'm on 2000 calories, and I'm pregnant, but basically by eating more veggies and reducing some of the carbs you would have the right calories and it's more appropriate for non-pregnant eating:Breakfast:
1-2 Starch
1 protein
1 fatSnack:
1 starch
1 proteinLunch:
2 starch
1 fruit
1 veggie
3 protein
1 fatSnack:
1 fruit
1 protein
1 milkDinner:
3 starch
2 veggie
3-5 protein
2 fatSnack:
1 milk
1 fruit or starch
1 protein or fatThe trick is to know what that translates to. Starches are whole-wheat, low glycemic carb servings that equal 15 grams of carbohydrates. Fruits are also 15g of carbohydrates. Protein servings would be 7g of protein, and milk would be 15g of carbohydrates.

QUESTION:
what is a good diabetic diet plan for an over the road truck driver?
im a truck driver and need to go on a diet, i just been told by doctor im a type 2 diabetic . do you got any idea's or a plan? thanks-
ANSWER:
In additional to the above posts, learn PORTION SIZES. Red meats should be 4oz. Take a plate and divide it in half, now divide one of the halves, leaving you three areas. The large (half a plate) area is for your veggie, the smaller two areas are for your protien and starches/carbs. Try to pay attention to HOW the food is cooked, as that makes a difference.Keep track of eating places on the road, that fix buffet meals, as you can have a larger choice of veggies and salads. Do NOT drown your salad in dressing, put your dressing on the side and dip each bite into it. Try lighter dressings if you eat heavy ones.
Try to keep a journal of what you are eating and when you are eating it. You will be able to determine your eating habits and make changes where needed, if needed. Please it can help you find your 'trigger' foods, if you are testing 2 hours after eating.
As you are on the road, you need to figure out a way to add some exercises to your daily life. Exercising will help control your diabetes, even if you just pull over and walk for 30 minutes each evening or something. It will make a big difference verses no exercise.

QUESTION:
600 calorie diabetic diet plan?
I want to 600 calorie diabetic diet plan for Indian.-
ANSWER:
You're probably referring to that recent study that supposedly cured diabetics by cutting back their caloric intake to 600 calories a day.First, don't do this. 600 calories a day on a regular basis is highly dangerous.
Second, what the authors of the study failed to mention was that the diet was also low in total carbohydrates. They attributed fat and calorie reduction to the success, but any diet that so restrictive nutritionally is often going to be low in carbohydrates, calories, and fat across the board.
Third, even though several the patients passed the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test at the end of the study, I believe *all* of them failed the OGTT within 12 weeks, meaning that the diabetes wasn't "cured."
Fourth, there's a much safer and healthier way to control your blood sugar than eating practically nothing in a day, and that's a low-carbohydrate diet. Crash dieting like this can harm your body and your metabolism and make weight loss even more difficult, if you have weight to lose. Do yourself a favor and eat a healthy amount, but eat less of the foods that will spike your blood sugar, like grains, rice, corn, potatoes, carrots, and sugar.

QUESTION:
how do you plan a diabetic diet for a 13 yr. old who will not eat veg.and friut?
he has been diagnised pre diabetic and he weighs 155 he is 5/5 he is suppose to be taking meds. but refuses that also. please ; any advice would be grateful.-
ANSWER:
If you can think of anyone at all who he is likely to listen to, get that person to talk to him. I am a medical student and I know that teenagers respond to consequences that directly relate to their interests. So, for example, if he is on the football team, and you find out that the quarterback is diabetic and eats fruits and vegetables daily and takes his medications without a problem, and you tell the 13 yr old this, this will influence him much more than if you tell him that his condition will worsen if he doesn't comply with doctor's orders. A variation of this technique is if he smokes, a way to get him to stop is to tell him that his teeth will turn black and he will be unattractive to girls, rather than telling him that he will get lung cancer. I would also recommend you get the book that tells you how to sneak food into children's diets. Missy Chase Lapine wrote a book on this titled: " The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for hiding healthy foods in kids favorite meals." You may get him to eat vegetables and fruit without realizing it. Also try making juice out of fruits and vegetables. Get a book on how to juice fruits and make smoothies, etc. You can sneak all types of fruit and vegetables into these concoctions. Also give him fruit any way he will take it-in a fruit salad, with cereal, with no-sugar ice cream, etc. I hope that I have been helpful and good luck.

QUESTION:
Where can I find a type II Diabetic diet plan?-
ANSWER:
You can get intouch with your local Diabetic clinic they should have some leaflets or advice for you, if it is you that is diabetic you should of been given this help already. I had to research the different types of diet requirements of a type 1 and type 2 diabetic and the clinics were the best source of advice most of my research showed that a diet low in fat low in salt and moderatly low in sugar although do be careful as some low sugar foods and drinks have sugar alternatives which could also be harmful to insulin levels and foods that are high in fibre like brown bread and rice should help. To maintain your insulin levels foods that have a low Glyceamic index should also benefit as they release energy slower which means your insulin release is more steady.

QUESTION:
Need a diet plan for a diabetic who needs to eat 6 small meals a day?
She needs the small meals because of gastroparesis. Also has mild diverticulosis. Her diabetes is controlled with one daily dose of Glucophage.
Thank you.
Thank you, Naguru, for the good advice. I always appreciate your input.-
ANSWER:
This is a tough one and honestly, she should make an appointment with a dietician who specializes in these problems.people who have gastroparesis are not able to digest much fiber, especially fiber in fibrous vegetables and fruits, like citrus. on the other hand, the best thing you can do for diverticulosis is to eat high fiber foods and or supplement with fiber and a lot of water. the water or liquid part would be helpful to both problems.
nowardays, doctors are saying that seeds and nuts are no longer restricted to those with diverticulosis unless of course these things bother the person, but then here we go again. they're not so good for gastroparesis. it's a catch 22. because you don't want to sacrifice a healthy, nutritious diet altogether.
also need to avoid full fatted dairy products and use the low fat or fat free versions.
there's a ton of information out there. just google gastroparesis/diabetic sample menus and do the same for the diverticulosis. good luck.

QUESTION:
I'm looking for the Diabetic Lowcarb Diet plan. Anyone know about it?
My dr. suggested I use the Diabetic LowCarb Diet, but I can't find any other information about it. Does anyone know about this diet and where to find it?Thanks.
-
ANSWER:
I would first recommend you check with a dietitian, many times your insurance will pay for this since its cheaper than an amputation for mismanaged diabetes. You are going to need a diet specific to your needs and a dietitian is your best bet to maintain a healthy weight and a healthy blood sugar level. Many larger hospitals and Medical Centers have diabetes clinics to help you find a diet that works for you. If you can not find any resources in your area try The Carbohydrate Addicts Diet by Dr's Rachel and Richard Heller. There is usually a copy at the local library or you can do a search on goggle for the diet and get tips and buy the book directly from them. Its a good low carb diet that still allows carbs every day so you are not craving anything.

You'll find a lot of questionable advice from amateurs. I strongly advise you to rely on the experts such as the American Diabetes Association and the USDA.Don't be too concerned about carbs. QUESTION:
Diabetic Diet plans?
My boyfriend (as of the past 8 months) is diabetic and has been for the past 20 years. I now cook for the 2 of us and while I try to cook as healthy as possible ... foods low in fat and oil and basically no fried foods .... I need to know what kinds of foods I can and should make to help with his condition. He doesnt take as good of care of himself as he should I need to know what things to look out for to help him be as healthy as possible.
Any help or answers are greatly appreciated.
So if you are diabetic and have been for a long period ... how healthy are you and what is your diet plan ?
-
ANSWER:
A Diabetic diet plan....there are two diffrent types of plans you can follow. One is a calorie intake and the other is a carbohydrate intake. A good calorie diet is typically tried first and if this doesn't accomplish things then they usually try the carb one but I will give you an example Calorie diet for the typical male below...1800 calories but this would depend on his exercize and activity levels too....
Breakfast:
2 starches....one slice of bread is one starch(example)
1 friut....apple,unpeeled,small (4 oz)
1 milk/dairy....2 percent is 1 cup only
1 meat....1 is typically 1 oz. or 1 slice of regular bacon.
2 fat...1 would be 1 tsp of butter
Snack
1 Starch....5 Saltine crackers
2 meats....2 slices on low fat lunchmeat or 1 slice meat
1slice Cheese.
2 fat.......1 tblesp of mayo, miracle whip
Dinner
4 starch......1 c.Corn, rolls, bread (if u use garlic bread
include 1fat)
1 fruit......makes for a better dessert.
3 meat.....1 = 1 oz
2 fat.......butter for rolls breads
Snack
1/2 cup milk
2 starch...a little cereal, crackers
1 fruit
Some people dont like the snack before bed so its ok to move between lunch and dinner but you'll have to adjust his insulin for the extra meal during the daylight hours. Typically, I like to use the snack before bedtime because it stablizes the sugar levels through the night (so you wont drop to low) One thing is though...this is for a diabetic that is typically on insulin injections, you should talk to your local diatician at your local hospital. let her know that you are cooking for him and you need to know hat an how....Youll be able to explain his situation better so she can help with the perfect diet for him. Good luck

QUESTION:
Diet Plan for Vegetarian Diabetic?
Is there anyone out there who is Diabetic and a Vegetarian? I was diagnosed 2 years ago with Diabetes and take Metformin. I changed my eating habits, but am not losing much weight. I still weigh over 200 lbs at 5'9" tall. I am a female age 53. All the diets I find either contain poultry and seafood and I DO NOT EAT MEAT, POULTRY OR SEAFOOD. I basically lived on carbs. I do love all types of veggies and have started to eat more fruit since becoming diabetic. Also I am always hungry and if I do not eat on time (like if I am in a late night meeting at work) I get very lightheaded and dizzy. Then my sugar drops. Please give me some advice on a diet plan. I would like to hear from Vegetarian Diabetics please. Thanks.-
ANSWER:
I am not vegetarian but I know a few diabetics who are. I think the best thing to do is to reach out to other vegetarian diabetics in the diabetes online community, and they will be the best people to share expertise and advice with you.My favourite diabetes community site is tudiabetes. On there, there are groups dedicated to just about every interest you could think of. I looked up keyword 'vegetarian' in groups and here's what I got. http://www.tudiabetes.org/groups/group/search?q=vegetarian
You could also try googling low carb vegetarian. Whatever you do, don't look for 'diabetic' recipes as virtually all are too high in carb.

QUESTION:
What are some diet plans for a diabetic with high cholesterol?
I am an uninsured diabetic who just found out that I have high cholesterol as well. Because I have no insurance I see a sliding scale doctor. They pretty much diagnose me, prescribe medication and offer me little to no advice as to what to eat. Can someone offer me some advice on a diet that may work to lower my cholesterol as well as keep my sugar where it needs to be?-
ANSWER:
High LDL, low HDL, and high triglycerides are common in Type 2 diabetics, especially severely insulin resistant Type 2s. I have known individuals diagnosed with Type 2 whose triglycerides were off the charts (1000+).The best way to lower triglyceride levels is to lower carbohydrates. I dropped mine from 115 to 70 by just cutting out starches and sugars. Most doctors will tell you to limit fat to drop LDL, but my diet is very high in fat (at least 60% of my diet on most days), including saturated fat (yes, butter - lots of butter), and my LDL fell to 81 from the high 120s and my HDL increased 13 points. A traditional diet to improve cholesterol is full of carbohydrates, like oats and low-fat yogurt, low-fat cheese, and milk, but all those foods will raise your blood sugar and that will work against your cholesterol-lowering goals. Dietary fat is really not the enemy and I think a lot of confusion stems from the fact that lipids are known as 'blood fat.' There's this idea comes from equivocating different types of fat, assuming that dietary fat causes blood fat and body fat. I lost about 75 pounds eating more fat, my cholesterol improved by all measures, and my A1c dropped from over 11% to the low 5% range.
So, I would encourage you to cut back on your carbohydrates, especially grains, corn, oats, potatoes, rice, and sugar, even fruit, and to up your protein, healthy fats, including saturated, and non-starchy vegetables.
Exercise can improve HDL and omega-3 fish oil is great for lowering triglycerides, so these are some supplementary moves you can make along with dietary changes to improve cholesterol and trigs.
I'm sorry your doctor sent you home without more info. I, too, was seeing a sliding scale doctor after I was diagnosed and he gave me very few tips. I began panicking, searching the internet for help, and I talked to some great people who told me what to try. I haven't looked back. Low-carb diets are the way to go if you are a Type 2.

QUESTION:
my doctor says i might be diabetic, does anyone out there have a diet plan or some kind chart that list?
daily meals to follow breakfast,lunch,dinner,e.t.c.-
ANSWER:
If you really want to control your blood sugar, try 60 g of carbs a day, not 60 per meal! Really, you'd probably do ok on 100g/day if you're just now borderline diabetic, but a good period of 25-75 for a week or two wouldn't hurt to re-set the system.Look into paleo or primal diet/lifestyle. There's nothing about bread and potatoes that's yummy enough to wreck your health. And steak is pretty yummy and it won't ever raise your blood sugar. Don't get too caught up in the grassfed/perfect protein stuff, unless that's your thing. If you'll just eliminate processed foods and eat plenty of protein and fat you'll cure yourself of borderline diabetes in a matter of weeks.
Now, you asked specifically about three squares. I'm going to challenge your assumptions here. So long as you're not dangerously diabetic yet, I'd toy with fasting some as a way to improve your insulin sensitivity. Now that would probably seriously freak out your doctor. But we all fast a little every time we skip breakfast. Just extend that some to dinner maybe once or twice a week. Even if you're just borderline diabetic, don't try this if you're going to be alone all day, just in case you went hypoglycemic. You want to be around people who can give you some juice if you start acting freaky, because you won't recognize the symptoms yourself if things go bad.

I just want to make sure I am helping him with his condition ...There has to be more I can do with what I feed us ?
Please any help or suggestions is REALLY needed. Thank You.
-
ANSWER:
People with diabetes can eat anything they want.
Yes, there are some choices that are better than others.
It's not the sugar to worry about, it's the carbs. We all need carbs and they are the only thing that raises blood sugar.
Get yourself a book with nutritional information and count carbs. Ask your Bf how many carbs he should eat each meal.
You don't need to use artificial sugar in baking. It still has the carbs and generally tastes like garbage.
If you bake cookies, he should only have a small portion of carbs with his meal to make room for the cookies.
For instance :
Baked Chicken [ 0 carbs ]
Baked potato [30 carbs ]
green beans [about 5 carbs in a 1/2 cup serving ]
2 Rolls [ 60 carbs ]
That is a bit high.
If you change the two rolls into one, he still has room for cookies.
It's all a trade off.
Perhaps you should both go to a dietitian to learn what is best.
Good luck.

QUESTION:
Would it be helpful for a non-diabetic to go on a diabetic meal plan?
A diabetic diet consists of rather healthy foods and very little sugar. Would this be healthy for a non-diabetic to adopt into their diet, or would the lack of sugars and other things cause some minor health problems?-
ANSWER:
You can bet your bippy. A low glycemic diet for the whole family is in order. It is the one thing Americans need to do to fight off this wave of Diabetes.
This table includes the glycemic index and glycemic load of more than 2,480 individual food items.

QUESTION:
What would be a good diet plan for me?
Hey, guys. *waves*
I'm 13, 4'11" and weigh 105 lbs.
I would like to weigh 90 by September.
I'm diabetic.
What would be a good diet plan for me?
I don't follow my diet for diabetes too well.
My mom says I'm gaining weight because of puberty, but I think she's telling me that because she doesn't want to admit that I'm getting heavy.-
ANSWER:
A good diet plan for you would be to get on your diabetic diet and stick to it. Stop eating white food. You know -- white bread, sugar, white flour, potatoes, pasta. Eat lots of veggies. Stop drinking soda and start drinking lots of water. Limit your fat intake but don't eliminate it. Most fat free foods are loaded with sugar so avoid them. And don't forget to exercise.Your mom is probably right about your weight gain. You are getting hips and boobs now so you will gain a bit. 105 really isn't too big for your height especially if you are not small boned ie. if your wrist is 6 inches around or larger.

QUESTION:
what is the best diet plan for a 25yr old diabetic?-
ANSWER:
The best diet plan for ANY diabetic is to learn all you can about counting carb/sugar calories taken in and estimating calories burnt. Learn what foods are safe to eat a lot of and which ones to avoid excessive amounts of. For example. It's fairly safe to eat all the green vegetables you want.... and, it's not safe to eat four slices of bread all at once. That sort of thing. Here's a few helpful and healthy links to learn more:

QUESTION:
What is a good diet plan for my husband & I to do together?
I would like to find a diet plan (meals & exercise) that my husband & I can do together, but is easy at the same time. He will only walk or ride bikes with me. I have the Walk A Way the Pounds DVDs and he will not do them. He also expects to have a full meal on the table every night, but agress that he should not eat that much and needs to loose some weight. I am a diabetic and could really use some support in losing at least 10 lbs. We are both in our late 20's to early 30's and have a daughter who is active. She could do something with us, but I need ideas.-
ANSWER:
Recent studies have shown that the best diet plan for weight loss, diabetes, cancer and hypertension is a plant based diet.Using a completely vegetarian diet without chicken, fish, eggs, milk, cheese or anything else that comes from an animal, I have seen many people stop using insulin and get rid of their other medications. The patients that I work with usually eat only 2 meals each day; they skip supper because they don't need the energy from that meal while they are sleeping.
Any diet will not give you the results that you want without exercise.

QUESTION:
Is this diet plan good for a diabetic?
My blood sugar count is 120 mg/dl on 8 hours of absolute fasting. My weight is on the higher side. I am 176 cms tall and weigh 95 kilos or 209 pounds. So in order to reduce my weight, i have decided to reduce my rice intake (i eat parboiled thailand rice).
I have my breadfast at around 8.30am and get hungry around 12.30pm for lunch. At 12.30pm I eat a handful of pistachio and walnut mixture. So my hunger subsides and at 1.30pm or so I eat little rice with vegetable or fish curry or fry. This way the amount of rice intake is reduced. Is this okay for me?/ Please adviseI also do not drink any aerated drinks and take tea without sugar and also take two green tea everyday.
Please advice.
-
ANSWER:
The amount of rice you can get away with eating is very individual! I cannot even have one good spoonful, but my friend can have all she wants. We are both type 2 diabetics on medications!Get a glucometer, eat a serving of the rice one day and test your glucose both before eating and 90 minutes after. Record all test scores and amount of food. Next day do the same thing, but add veggies to the dish. Next day add the fish or whatever else you like.
If my glucose spikes more than 50 mg/dL I have to decide how much of that I wish to keep in my food plan and how often I wish to have it.
Do some food testing and see if you think cutting down on amount of rices is what you should be doing for yourself.

QUESTION:
the best way to loose weight?!?! Im diabetic and i need a diet and exercise plan!?
im a 16 yr old female... im diabetic(type one) and i really need to loose a few pounds! i find it hard as a diabetic to loose weight as im constantly having to eat to keep my blood sugar up!! HELP PLEASEEEEE XX-
ANSWER:
When you are losing weight, you should exercise and diet together.
If you exercise without dieting, you will get bigger appetite, which
will lead to increase of weight, or muscle grow
underneath the fat layer, and make you bulkier. If you diet without
exercising, you will become flabby and will have excess skin. For
diet, go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food
after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on
your initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If
you don't eat wheat then you don't eat all those sticky, fatty goey
cakes, you don't eat junk food, and you don't eat biscuits. But your
diet is still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to
calculate points or to buy special meals or plans. For exercising,
start with walking, and then switch to running/jogging. Running is the
most efficient and calorie-burn exercise ever. If you are overweight a
lot, walk first or you may have health complications (heart attack,
disjointed bones and so on). Weight lifting is a good means to target
your problem areas for men and women. It's not necessarily to become a
bodybuilder or even join a gym - a couple of dumbbells will help you
to target your problem areas (stomach, butt, legs, arms, chest).

QUESTION:
what is the best diet for type 2 diabetic. Do you have an exact copy i can get on here and print.?
I am looking for the best resolution to lose weight and get this diabetes under control and live a healthy life, I need a copy of an exact diet plan if anyone has one please that is filling and works.-
ANSWER:
Eat five or six small meals a day, low carb, add more protein
Eat lots of vegetables and fruits. To get good variety, choose from the rainbow of colors available. Eat low-starch or nonstarchy vegetables, such as spinach, carrots, broccoli, or green beans, with meals.
Choose whole-grain foods over processed-grain products. Try brown rice with your stir-fry or whole-wheat spaghetti with your favorite pasta sauce.
Include dried beans, like kidney or pinto beans, and lentils in your meals.
Include fish in your meals 2 to 3 times a week.
Choose lean meats. For example, cuts of beef and pork that end in "loin," such as pork loin and sirloin, are good choices. Remove the skin from chicken and turkey.
Choose nonfat dairy, such as skim milk, nonfat yogurt, and nonfat cheese.
Choose water and calorie-free diet drinks instead of regular soda, fruit punch, sweet tea, and other sugar-sweetened drinks.
Cook with liquid oils instead of solid fats, which can be high in saturated and trans fats. Remember that all fats are high in calories. If you're trying to lose weight, watch your portion sizes of added fats.
Cut back on high-calorie snacks and desserts, such as chips, cookies, cakes, and full-fat ice cream.
If you eat too much, you can gain weight, even if what you’re eating is healthful, so watch your portion sizes
Exercise even walking 30 min a day 3 X a day.
Test your blood glucose before and after (2 hours) to check to see how this is affecting your levels until your reach your goal. Keep a diary to share with your dr.I love my diet plan and it has worked for me. My dietitian advised me of this plan and I use it faithfully. I don't like to feel I'm on a restrictive diet so I like to eat variety but its all about portion control and small meals and I've added more protein and this helps alot with not feeling HUNGRY all the time!
Hope you like it! Try it you'll see the difference both in your weight, overall mood and a healthy lifetyle.

QUESTION:
What is the diet plan for diabetec patients?
My father is a Diabetic patient and does not follow the
perfect diet and take care for his health. Can you pleease help me out what should be his daily diet and precations he should take.
i.e,every thing about it.-
ANSWER:
You don't mention whether Type 1 or Type II, but I'll assume the latter (adult onset diabetes). I'm that one myself. You should call his doctor yourself, if he won't - and you should do that before you listen to me. But here's my suggestions:
1) South Beach Diet - it's a best-seller, easily accessible, and just happens to be a great diet plan for diabetics. Forget about the part describing what to do in the first 3 weeks - just go with the general diet plan laid out, and your dad should do well.
2) American Diabetes Association - www.diabetes.org - is a wellstone of information, including diet and nutrition (and exercise!). Use it.
Good luck!

I've had hypothyroidism for almost 2 years along with being pre-diabetic. I'm taking medicines for both, plus i'm on a food supplament pill that my doctor prescribed after 6 MONTHS of me excersising and only losing 5 pounds you could say i was pretty deppressed after that. I've got 3 months till i'm 16, that's a young age to have all these things wrong with me! I can't lose weight easily, but I can gain it like it's nothing! i watch what i eat, and i've continued to excersise... so far i've lost 16 pounds in almost 8 months..it makes me so depressed and upset because i dont know what to do! so i guess my question is, What is a good work out and diet plan to stick to in order for me to lose weight more easily without the risk of hurting myself physicaly, mentaly, and internaly?

QUESTION:
Can you give me some good ideas/practices for pre-diabetic diet?
I have been recently diagnosed as pre-diabetic. My doctor wants me to go on 1600 calorie ADA diet plan. I have been doing alot of reading online - ADA website and other diabetes websites. Still I really could use some input and ideas from others with this condition.
I'm not over weight. For years I have avoided eating bad carbs - I have done both Atkins and South Beach Diet in the past. I thought Atkins was really terrible and basically unhealthy. South Beach is a much more practical and healthy approach - but in reality does not differ much from what ADA suggest. My father is diabetic - so genetically proned to this condition - even though maintain good eating habits and have an active life.
-
ANSWER:
the ADA diet plan is a total joke! It is merely smaller servings of what you have been eating to get to this stage in the first place.A lot of people have has lots of success with the South Beach phase 2 food plan. The head Endocrinologist at Piedmont in Ga. recommends to his patients to use the South Beach and he himself being diabetic is on it and has insisted his staff use it as well.
It is a very sensible plan
Start a walking program. Walk as fast as you can for an hour every day. When this gets to be easy, make it twice a day. Walking is very very good exercise. It helps most people loose weight, gain control of glucose numbers, gain better control of blood pressure, and some say it even lowers LDL cholesterol. I don't know but it sure makes me feel better and able to handle the day!
